For something I'm putting together I would like to illustrate an estimated cost of transitioning. I know it can vary depending on where you are or who you're getting each thing done with, but it's just for illustrative purposes, so it doesn't have to be precise.
What can be the cost of:
- HRT (per year)
- Electrolysis
- Therapy/counseling
- Voice therapy
- Breast augmentation
- SRS
- FFS
Ranges are OK, as is just your personal experience. I'll put the data together.

Fixed that for ya!
For me HRT and therapy are covered so I can't give anything for those. The rest I don't know about but the cost of SRS, breast augmentation and having my Adam's apple shaved ran me about, for a round figure, about $40,000 Canadian, all of which I paid for myself as I couldn't wait for the government to ante up. I am hoping that my appeal of my breast augmentation will be accepted as I have the throat and SRS to try and get deducted from my taxable income
It's super expensive to become a woman and don't forget the cost of a whole new wardrobe and any fees associated with getting all new identity documents!! So, maybe add another $5-10,000 to that figure.

Clare
Somewhere else on the web, I forget where, an online friend costed out the whole shebang, right down to every item of clothing she bought. The total came out to right around $100,000.00, American. I know she had a BA and a full round of FFS, including a trach shave. She also factored in the cost of hormones, therapy, hair removal from her face, and hairline restoration as well. I do not recall if there was any other body contouring involved.
I like to tell people I realized I was really transgender when I figured out that for the cost of transitioning, I could buy a really nice pre owned Aston Martin, Maserati, or Ferrari. And that I somehow knew being a girl was going to make me happier than owning the car.
I know the cost of not transitioning is higher.
My transition is pretty cheap so far. I'm planning to get electrolysis eventually, but I haven't costed that out yet.
HRT: about $100/yr (with insurance)
Wardrobe: about $1k/yr (I shop at thrift stores)
therapy: $2k/yr (after insurance)
