Title: hysto before or after HRT for Older FTMs ?
Post by: EddieX on February 25, 2016, 06:23:29 AM
Hi ,

I'm New to this forum and i have a question

one of my FTM friends is about 40 , and he wants to start transitioning

is there a good thing with doing Hysto before HRT for him ?

or doing Hysto after HRT ?

what are the (dis)advantages of each one ?

another question is what brand of testosterone , Musculinise faster and has less bad side effects ?

(IMHO Nebido is good , what's your idea ?)

Thanks

Not sure about the hysto but I think Nebido is a good option or gel. My doctor who specialises in trans patients doesn't prescribe Sustanon anymore because of side effects from long term use. Plus with gel you get a consistent daily dose so you don't get mood swings or PMS like symptoms. Every type of T works the same.

What brand of gel you mean ? Androgel or another ?

Can he use Nebido and gel together or one of these is recommended ?

Can gel be used for long term for HRT without any injection ?

EddieX, for someone  over 40, there GYN history is may well determine when to get a hyster.

Nebido or gel will depend on mostly what he feels like doing. Nebido is an injection once every 3 months. Gel needs applied everyday, which can be a pain in the butt. Some people have problems keeping their levels stable with injections so choose to go to gel but I think most gel people go to injections because they don't want to apply it everyday. All forms of T will get you to 'male' around the same time. It is a second puberty and can take 5+ years for everything to fill out.

If he has psos or some inner girl bits problem then get the hysto now as a girl and get insurance to cover it. Sometimes insurance won't cover it if there is no problem going on in there. If insurance or documents are changed to M before a hysto then sometimes the insurance  company can deny coverage and you have to dispute it. Easier just to get it done earlier, especially at that age.

I was on testogel and then switched pharmacies and now on Testim. It's the exact same product; just has a different name because it comes from a different company. You can only use one type of T at a time. And gel cam be used long term like any other type of T.
To add to what Alex said my doctor mentioned that most people who switch to injectables go back to gel because of the health effects and PMS symptoms.

Do FTMs on Nebido face PMS too or these symptoms are only for some brands like sustanon ?

And are these symptoms due to blood level instability ?

Trans men on nebido and sustanon can experience these types of symptoms. It's due to your T levels being at their lowest just before you're due for your next injection; hence why you tend to feel a surge of energy just after getting your injection. This is also why on gel you don't get these types of mood swings because you're getting a consistent daily dose.

Right

What I understand from other FTMs , Nebido has less bad side effects than another brands , like less acne , less hair loss etc

Does Gel have less bad side effects too ?

Is just "daily using" a disadvantage of using gel ?

I haven't heard of Nebido having those effects. And yeah; the daily usage is the only con I can think off. All types of T will cause acne; hair loss etc due to diet and genetics. It's a mystery as to how you'll be effected by the drug until you take it.

Where is your friend located? Nebido and Sustanon are not available in the United States. There is one long-term injection available here called Aveed that is like Nebido, but it has to be specifically ordered by a doctor and injected at the doctor's office every time. I am planning to ask my doctor about it during our next visit.

My doctor is pretty conservative in terms of what she'll encourage at the start, because she wants people to find the right dose for them first and then worry about convenience of administration. I started on a half dose of Testim for the first month, then went up to a full dose of Testim for the second and third months, and then switched to weekly IM cypionate injections. She told me that she wouldn't let anyone switch to pellets (which is a longer term method) until they had been on T for a year. So your friend may find that their doctor won't encourage any of the longer term forms of T until they've figured out what the ideal dose is.

FWIW - you will see the same effects and side effects in all forms of T no matter what the method or dosage is. It all largely depends on how your body takes to it. As for the hysto, I don't think it matters when it is done. I know people who have had it done before, and I personally had it done after. When I compare our transitions, I don't see much difference between the two other than the order we chose to have things done in. All the masculinization has been very similar.

Thanks a million for your information ,

I heard the name of Aveed as a long-term injectable T , but I didn't see anyone using it

I'll be glad to hear your doctor's information about using Aveed instead of Nebido for a long time
