Seriously, how long does it take to get a blasted Dr appt. My therapist will write a letter. The therapist that I saw with my wife is writing one next week. I wasted all day at the VA, got asked archaic sexual orientation questions from some dude that I could hardly understand only for him to say yes I support your diagnosis. He had no clue that the VA in Colorado Springs or the VA in general does hrt and had no clue as to the next step. I was very clear when I made the appt that my end goal is to start treatment.
I asked to see the patient advocate and yoohoo, surprise and congratulations it was an old friend from my old unit that I deployed with. I was not really ready to come out to friends old or new yet. I spent 5 minutes convincing him that I was not fooling him about needing to transition. He is a real good guy and old friend that I got out of touch with. He had no clue as what to do to help me and now I am on a huge wait list wit an un determined out come
I called planned parenthood in Denver, cannot get an appt till mid april and I am not cray about driving to denver and missing that much work
How blasted hard can it be to find a Dr that will start hrt before I turn 80.
I thought it would be hard to get a therapist to write a letter but heck soon I can have 3 if I need them but can't get an appointment with a Dr so what help is that...Driving me crazy ....no wonder people use alternate methods to get the proper treatment. I am not going to self medicate or take herbal supplements but I see why it is so tempting.
I understand the frustration, I felt the same way. But if your appointment for HRT is in April that's only about six weeks away and will be gone before you know it. Maybe look at other things you can get started on in the meantime like beard removal?
I feel your pain but consider yourself lucky. I spent about 4 years getting my letter written. I have been off hormones for 10 years due to obsolete information so I am returning to them. I am very post surgical and in great health but it took close to 4 weeks to go from my first call to having the bottle in my hands. Three weeks of that was getting somebody to look at a clean lab report and then making room for a follow up appointment.
I am in Phoenix where the VA scandal first broke so I can understand you reaching 80 before you work your way through the VA system.

You are right but arghh. I don't have my first laser appt until 11 March, had to wait a while for that also. BTW it is in Denver lol...maybe I should move haha
Just that feeling that I am ready and it is past overdue
4 years!! Wow Dena incredibly strong lady you must be. Funny when I was irritated I thought about our friends across the pond and the mandatory 1 yr rle before anything happens. So I should relax but I still want to scream.
In 1974 it was a task just locating anybody who had a clue what to do with me. It took 8 years from my first therapy appointment until my surgery. Everybody understood what I was but skilled help was hard to find.

Arizona had nobody trained in treatment. The nearest treatment was located in southern California making relocation for treatment a requirement. Today, Arizona has several treatment programs and there is a doctor who could handle hormones and reassignment on the road I traveled everyday I went to ASU. Where the doctors office currently sits was undeveloped desert in those days.
