My sister-in-law is visiting and one of her grandchildren has come out as FtM, has picked a new name and started wearing a binder. My SIL is having some problems accepting this and I've tried to give her some resources without appearing too knowledgeable. I'm coming out to her family soon but am not out to them yet since they are having a brothers/sisters only reunion this weekend and I don't want to be the elephant in the room. Anyway, this evening we were talking and my SIL said, "Well as far as I'm concerned, my daughter has two sons and four daughters, not three sons and three daughters." My wife and I looked at each other and the expression on my wife's face was saying, "Don't you dare!" So I just bit my tongue and kept my mouth shut. It will be time soon but not yet.
That is sad. Some people just need time to accept what is new to them and some never will. Let's hope she's in the former group. When it's time, I wish you luck.
Hugs,
DeeDee
We were talking a little later and I mentioned the high rate of suicide attempts by children who don't have support. I'm not sure who wrote it on here but I borrowed the line and asked if she would rather visit with her grandson or put flowers on his grave? That gave her something to think about.
Wow! that was bold! You go girl.
Hugs,
DeeDee
