Title: Blood tests
Post by: Midnightstar on March 01, 2016, 01:01:32 PM
Can anyone list the mot important blood tests that needs to be done before taking HRT?
I want to make sure it's done and i keep forgetting so if someone could put it down that's be great i can then write it on paper and won't lose it or have it next time i go to the doctors.
I have already done the T and E results and my T is high and i know i need to do the kidney tests and things, but i forgot what else.

The best thing to do is to consult with your physician. Every person is different. So who knows better than your doctor?

Yea they didn't seem to give me that much information, and wanted to skip over some tests that they assumed wasn't that important. Then i forgot some what they said because i didn't bring a note book like i should have so i wanted some advice to make sure I've gotten everything. If you mean calling them and then asking i fear if they want to skip some tests they wouldn't tell me what ones because they wouldn't think its needed or important. People skipping things have always made me nervous i'd rather everything be done/said then have to regret something or take a risk that shouldn't have been taken.

They should know which tests to run but liver function is very important because HRT can cause liver issues. My tests run to three pages but they cover.
CBC complete blood count
Comprehensive Medabolic panel CMP
Hepatic (liver) Function Pannel
Lipid Pannel
Testosterone Total
Thyroxine Free
Thyroxine Total
Thyroid Simulating Hormone
There may be a few more test than were needed because one test was being run for both Endo reasons an a physical. It's not a bad idea to have a detail test run at first as a baseline because HRT can have an effect on other levels and with a baseline reference, you will know what HRT did and if it's an indication of another problem.

HRT can cause liver issues.

Not so if estradiol taken is bio-identical and very high doses of cyproterone acetate aren't taken over a long time. It was more a concern in the old days when higher doses of CPA were sometimes used and estrogens like ethinyl estradiol and conjugated equine estrogens were prescribed in high doses.
