Laser round 2 got through chest but cried and couldn't finish face too sad stressed out listening to fight song to loud atm
They get better as time goes on and you have less hair to zap (at least they did for me) but the first couple of sessions do hurt like a son of a gun.
It does get better over time, but if your already on hormones and things are starting to grow that area will hurt even more. Hugs

I actually kind of enjoy them... In my head I'm all, "Muahaha! Take that, you prickly bastards!"
The Laser Technician puts cotton wool balls inside my protective glasses to absorb my tears while she does my face. Just grin and bear it honey, it's not for long. Soooo worth it! She apologises every time I flinch too.
The only time the pain will get better is when the hair is gone. >:-)

Laser was pain free for me between zaps.
What's the worry?
the upper lip is hell and I'm about to start genital hair removal fml lmao like the pain part never really got any easier. I still get super nervous before each session. Its all been worth it though, no more beard shadow and now I can get away with just waxing my upper lip like any other woman. 15 sessions of pain
I had my first laser session 4 weeks ago, YIPES!!!!
When I had test patches done before that she did the 1st one on my neck, I though "that tingled, what's all the fuss about?". Then she did the side of my chin & I almost hit the wall 6ft away I jumped so far!! Then she said she was going to do above the lip & warned me "this is a tender area & will hurt more". All I could think was "WHAT!! Hurt more than that last zap???"
After she zapped me I had to be peeled of the ceiling, lol
It's worth the pain as since my first full session I've gone from 2 - 3 shaves a day to shaving every other day, yay party time 😂
I thought it was going to hurt less than electrolysis, but I was wrong. It hurt every bit as much, but instead of her having to spend the whole session on the upper lip, she only had to zap it 5 times.
Finished a few months ago. Still have some stragglers that I have to shave, but it's not bad. The only thing that bothers me is the area is still rough there. Hoping it will get softer over time.
Just remember girls...laser may not permanently remove hairs, hairs may regrow years after last treatment. Electrolysis, on the other hand, is the only proven method to permanently remove hairs if done properly (you shouldn't feel the hair when it's pulled out of the follicle as it's been zapped/destroyed).
The place I go to has a spray that shoots out after the zap. Or works very well.

If I could find a place that does electrolysis near me, I would have used that on the face. I moved during electrolysis and all the places that advertised it near the new place were actually laser. I have yet to find an electrolysis place that's not at somebody's house out here. I did find one that was a business, but they don't seem to exist anymore.
Laser hurts on your face and neck and your armpits and arms and legs! And electrolysis hurts like a son of a bitch! But it's all worth it in the long run. I had no idea how silky my legs could be until I had them lasered. I've only needed to shave them once since Halloween of last year and have had just 1 treatment since. Pretty much the same with my arms.
Was really hoping to come in to this thread and find descriptions like "soft as kitty bellies" or "smooth as unicorn breath"...so much for expectations!
I start laser on the 18th and am looking forward to it, despite having the doctor explain the pain. The office is having me come in an hour early so that they can apply numbing solution. Does your clinic offer that, or do they laser first and numb after?
Mine gave me numbing cream and they rubbed my face with ice or something before each zap (I had glasses that I couldn't see through on). It still hurt like crazy. She had to start low and increase the intensity over time. By the final session I had hardly any facial hair left for her to zap, so it wasn't too bad that time.
No they don't offer numb cream but u can do it your self b fore hand any types? U suggest

Get a prescription for benzocaine/lidocaine/tetracaine. If your local pharmacy can't do that, you'll need to send it to a compounding pharmacy. If your doctor isn't sure what you're asking for, here's the wording: benzocaine/lidocaine/tetracaine 20-6-4% in PLO gel
Kizzy,
I am doing electrolysis and not laser. I was prescribed lidocaine-prilocaine cream(commonly called ELMA).
It is to be applied beforehand by the individual.

Just had my first laser session on my face today. I didn't find it painful. There were about 2 times I would say it was mildly uncomfortable. I would suggest a numbing cream if you have a low pain threshold, but I found the experience was not remotely close to what I had heard about it.
I would agree with, amberwaves. I have been through two laser sessions on my face and neck now, and, while slightly uncomfortable in the denser areas, I wouldn't call it painful. I go to Dr. Tattoff (company name) in California and have had nothing but positive experiences and results. Personally, compared to laser tattoo removal, laser hair removal feels like butterfly kisses. That said, I am still pre-HRT, perhaps that has something to do with it.
Density of hair can make a difference
People experience pain differently. Laser technology is different at different laser places.
The laser place I used had a Candela Gentlemax laser which combines two different lasers. It also has the cool mist feature after the zap which really helps. I was pretty happy with what they did and it didn't hurt that much. I had a lidocane/benzocane/tetracane cream mixed up by a compounding pharmacy that numbed my face and lessened the pain. My face just felt a little stingy/sunburned afterward - it was actually kind of a refreshing feeling.
The hair started to come back after 18 months and it was mostly white/gray hairs, so I switched to electrolysis.
Electrolysis for me is a completely different sensation. I still use the numbing cream but WHOA! after an hour of getting zapped i'm gripping the edges of the table with white knuckles and i'm ready for it to END!!!! After the session I have a few whelps and some tiny little pinpoint scabs that take a week to heal.
I'm not really looking forward to the next 100+ hours of electro :-\
