Title: Having lactation with only a little stimulation. Should I be concerned?
Post by: Trillium on March 12, 2016, 01:12:10 PM
So yesterday I noticed a few clears droplets coming out of each nipple after a few seconds of suction, from a very cheap pair of nipple suckers. I hadn't used them for sometime and as far as I can recall hadn't been excessively stimulating my breasts for the last few weeks. My hormone regime has also been pretty steady, though I do occasionally miss my mid-day pill. I've heard lactation can happen with a lot of stimulation over time, but is it normal for it to happen without much stimulation or hormonal changes?

Do you know your prolactin levels?

I don't have those no, last results I have only include sodium, potassium, urea, creatinine, GFR, vit D, testosterone, free androgen index, oestradiol, Serum LH, SFH (unfortunately my lastest results where with the GIC who are useless so won't tell me my results and haven't passed them onto my GP, it's been over half a year). Are prolactin levels something trans-woman would normally have tested?

Yes, breast stimulation can indeed raise prolactin levels and oxytocin which, in combination with estradiol, also increasing prolactin, would lead to lactation. The fact that it happened just after stimulation is pretty revelatory. This is what happens when babies suckle their mother's nipples.

OK thanks, it's just as it seemed like so little stimulation before it happened I wasn't sure x
