So i usually use initials/ company name for my design work but I've got a public speaking thing coming up and I'm getting really tired of my work being associated with a name i don't want and am going to change, so I'm going to email the organisers and let them know my new name and pronouns... just wondering if this is too blunt, do i need to prefix with 'because i'm trans' etc or will they get the message? I just want to keep it brief and business like, and not like I'm asking for permission with my sad little story.
Here's my draft:
"I don't use the name [birthname] in reference to any of my public work any more, only initials [initals], and in person I prefer [new name], and masculine (he/him/his) pronouns. It's most important to not have my old name/ pronouns on any internet or other documentation."
also how sad is it that the first person to use my correct pronouns/ new name would be a group of (bored) strangers? lol x
I worked with a girl once and we always referred to her as BJ. I never learned what her real name was but I spent hours wondering what horrible name her parents had given her.
That seems alright to me. I don't know that I would include anything about being trans, unless they ask or get pushy? It's really not any of their business, and if they're the ones in charge of organizing things, it's their job to make sure to introduce you properly.
But hey, having a bunch of strangers to test out your new pronouns and name on might not be an entirely bad thing.

Yeah I like the fact that it's an event that will be documented so i can use it as evidence that i'm 'living as male' whereas going to the supermarket by myself as myself... that's not recorded on the receipt

BJ isn't a great acronym either ._.

I hope i can rely on the fact that the arts tend to attract ~odd~ people and play it off as being all idiosyncratic 'cause it's not as if i'm going to pass as cis

If you have a white board you could write on it Mr Peep unless you have another title like Dr. Peep.
I think it's more a powerpoint type of thing but I do like Mr Peep it's very stern
They replied to my email + used my name but otherwise didn't mention it, i think it'll be okay... hopefully
If they used the right name it could be they're being casual about it. Showing you they got the message, and are going to follow through, but aren't going to make a big deal out of it.
That's what I'm hoping :) I'll see what happens on the day and report back
