Title: I hate wigs.....
Post by: LizK on March 20, 2016, 04:26:08 AM
There I have said it....I hate wigs with a passion...hot, uncomfortable, sticky and just plain old annoying...After leaving my support meeting yesterday I vowed I would never wear one again. Nothing happened to make me feel like this at the meeting. After putting it on I get this feeling that I am wearing as costume. Take the wig off and I feel great, I can see some hair transplants in my future as I have mild MPB at the front but funnily enough whilst checking the other day I have noticed a fair number of very small hairs just coming through in these balder spots which I don't understand as I am not taking anything...maybe low testosterone might be playing a factor...don't know only a guess.....but I do know that I hate wearing a wig and I am just going to have to fix it. Been growing my hair out now for about 7 months and hopefully within the next 6 or so I can get it professionally cut...Although before spending huge amounts of money on hair transplants I thought I would see what kind of reaction I have to the HRT...you never know I may even get some prop[er regrowth my understanding is that it is not unheard of.

It's not unheard of but depending on how much loss/thinning you've already experienced regrowth with HRT is less likely or will take some time.

The thing about wigs is that they will be hot and/or uncomfortable if they are not the right fit, don't have the right wefting to allow your scalp to breathe and if you have longish hair underneath. I've seen some trans women with great wigs that you would never even pick, others are a bit more obvious either because of the style or how they are worn being inappropriate.

If you can get away with not wearing a wig then awesome but for many it is definitely the only option if they want to pass - when that's the case you try to find a way to make it work for you. :)

I so understand how you feel. When my hair was really short at the start of my transitioning I thought about buying a wig but I felt that I wanted my own long hair and not a sustitute. I met a transwoman my age once at a gathering and she had a wig on. It was a perfect length for her but unfortunantly it looked so fake. Although I know a lady at mums hospital that has alopecia and she wears amazing wigs. Seriously you can not tell.
If you pull my hair line back, I have an obvious widows peak so I usually hide it with my thick bangs. But I would love to have hair transplants. Maybe someday.

A good wig will be hard to spot. You get what you pay for and the cheap ones can be spotted a mile away.

I kinda like some wigs, but it somewhat depends upon the purpose involved

A nice wig can provide the much needed comfort and confidence to a person who might require one

In younger days I donated my hair a couple of times at hair drives to provide wigs for cancer patients

As for me personally, sometimes I get tired of the same ol' mop on my head and would enjoy having a few wigs
for a new and different look now and then  ;D

No wigs for me grow my hair out keep it shoulder length. can do allot with it at that length. Makes for a small pony tail can put under hat when not dressed up.

Unfortunately I have no choice.  Which is really nice considering 100 degree heat and 80 percent humidity in the summer here.

I have similar feelings about wigs. In the summer it feels like wearing a winter hat.

If I transition it's probably wigs for me. Right now I just shave my head so I don't have to remember how bad the hair loss is when I look in the mirror.

The whole hair situation has really kept me from pursuing transition. :(   Along with other things I'm sure. But it's up there!

le sigh

The cap construction does make a big difference when it comes to ventilation. In my MPB since 14 case my head is a bit more ventilated then yours it sounds. (Ignoring my wife's comments about the "holes in my head")

TBH - I haven't met a cis woman yet with long hair that didn't complain about how hot their head gets in the summer.

I've always had long hair,i did keep it short once and my wide bought a wig for me,i still have it,it looks real on me..but I prefer my own hair. My wife keeps asking me don't I get hot, nope. In my avatar that's my hair.
