"Once again, Paul McHugh has used the ever more tarnished name of Johns Hopkins to distort science and spread transphobic misinformation. This time, it comes via a position statement from the American College of Pediatricians (ACP) a tiny offshoot of a real professional organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics. The ACP is a group of less than 200 ultra-conservative, mostly Catholic, people (most of whom aren't even pediatricians) who oppose letting gay people be parents, the HPV vaccine, marriage equality, birth control, and medical care for transgender people. They are in favor of reparative therapy and abstinence only education, though."
*Shudders*. Hate comes in many forms, the worst is when it's accompanied by advanced degrees.
Thanks for posting this, Stephanie.
I hope that most will recognize this as another attempt by religious organizations to derail the progress of human rights.

There are a lot of educated and ignorant people. I have met plenty of them in my lifetime.
There are plenty of these people in good places who mixes religion and politics with science. Johns Hopkins still has a sterling reputation. I am saying this because I had experience of my shrink's diagnoses based a good part on that Dr's paper back in 1977 when that came out. That caused a 33 year delay in getting treatment. I have seen a lot of good from Johns Hopkins in the past and they are continuing to do so.
Joelene
there are bad seeds everywhere . People looking to make some sort of name for themselves. I went to Loyola University in Chicago and there was a biology professor who proclaimed the wonders of that cancer drug made from apricot seeds or peach seeds. I forget the name of it , but he was involved in some way with the promotion of it. He finally got his butt kicked off the staff at Loyola. It's called Laetrile

Yes, but not from their gender unit. It's a disaster and any trans people would be well served to stay away from it. For details, read https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?topic=128215.0.
