Title: Resources for Parents
Post by: Jonathan L on March 25, 2016, 05:47:14 PM
So I finally bit the bullet and came out to my parents (which was extra daunting because my parents are divorced so I had to come out to two sets). They're still doing a lot of processing, but they've been amazingly supportive. I was so terrified they would dismiss me (I'm super femme so I was just waiting for the argument that I couldn't possibly be a boy) or not accept me. I know that I'm really lucky and I'm so grateful to have this space for support too. I was just wondering if you guys had any resources (books, films, websites, etc) that you guys found helpful in explaining things to parents because this is all completely new for them and I have a hard time explaining things sometimes. There's a support group for families of transgender people where I live, but other than that I'm not sure how to help them process/learn more.

The site Wiki is a good place to start as it contains topics covering many areas. For starters I would suggest looking at  this  (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Transgender) first.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your family when you came out. I hope they come to their senses one day. Thank you for the link.
