A facebook friend from church who I don't know well invited all her FB friends to see a movie tonight. It was a total chick flick, so as expected, only women replied. There were a few people I knew going, and I said I would come too, but when I got there I found out everyone I knew had backed out.
There were six other women there. They were very friendly and accepting. They saw me as a fellow woman and assumed we had a lot in common. We talked about our families, our kids, and it felt so natural. We spent a half hour after the movie just standing around in the lobby talking.
I don't know if anyone clocked me (the woman who invited me knows I'm trans but I doubt she outed me), but if they did, they showed no signs. I was just another one of the girls. We all went to the ladies' after the film and then waited by the sinks until everyone had finished. I had been talking to one of the women going in, and she just kept the conversation going as we entered our stalls.
I had a great time. It was moments like these, impossible as a male, that I looked forward to when I was going through my transition.
Sorry the others backed out on you, but glad you had a wonderful time. It's true thought that it is those moments that we just could have as we were before that do make all the difference. Hugs
Mariah
Congratulations. I hope you feel blessed as you were intended to feel.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean, equal female companionship was a key factor for me in needing to transition too.
nice
Suzi,
You mean to say no one screamed 'Bathroom Laws!'
Glad you had a lovely time and yes, my delight in being me is mingling socially with people of my gender.
Now you have six new friends.
I had the same type of experience last week via a work trip where nobody knew me. Any doubts that I had around my transition vanished.
To be completely honest I must admit that I never thought that this would happen where I simply was one of the girls. Not like that. This was always in the realm of fantasy universe.
Now I can only dream that I will feel like that at home and among those that knew me.
Either way, congrats Suzi from MD.
I grew up in MD and went to UMD college park. small world and all of that.
