"New York mayor orders restrooms to open based on gender identity
North Carolina lawmakers dealt a blow to transgender rights by passing a so-called "bathroom law" last week that requires individuals to use the bathroom that corresponds to their biological sex."

This should surprise no one here. That part of the law was meant purely as intimidation and governments pass unenforceable laws all the time. To my mind they merely weaken the rule of law by encouraging people to ignore laws they don't approve of.

Yeah I'm not really sure how all the police departments will respond, some of them are still quite the "old boys club", I certainly wouldn't want to have to discuss my choice of bathrooms with one of them. But I was kind of thinking more liberal people and places will just sort of look the other way, because the law is so morally unjust.

Which is still a bit of a trip for me to try and get used to. Going from, ostensibly, straight white cis male to a minority target of hate legislation by the government is just so weird. That other people in my state would ever have to be in a position to ignore a law of persecution regarding me or those like me is just...I know it's hyperbole to the extreme, but it does make me think of Germany in the 30s and how decent people avoided turning in the Jews. I know we aren't there yet, and we probably won't ever get there because, I'm assuming, the federal government would step in if something like that were to get passed? Unless a Republican gets elected...I'm sure it will be fine though, right? Nobody really cares about me, as long as I keep my head down :/

Sorry for the rant, weird morning.

"So what are you in for?" "I held up a convenience store in Charlotte, what are you in for?" "I peed in the restroom of a mini mall in a small NC town." So,so stupid....

I'd make something up. That's too likely to invite a beating in that situation. Life is not like "Alice's Restaurant".

From what I have read (can't guarantee it is accurate), it is an infraction. Basically, a ticket/fine. As others stated, the law is meant to intimidate and pander to their base.a
