Does anybody else here use Kaiser Permanente? I was just about mortified at the thought of going into the doctor's office and telling them I was trans, but so far things have gone smoother than I ever dreamed. I like my doctor, my therapist, and my endo, and they started HRT pretty quick. My therapist also insisted that it was a trans-friendly place and told me I was welcome to use the women's bathroom there.
I just wanted to bring this up in case anyone was looking for a trans-friendly health care provider or had other info that might be helpful. My husband is also trans and has a different provider (I get my insurance through work, which doesn't cover spouses) and I want to try to get him on Kaiser too, since his transition is going much slower than mine.
I am with Kaiser. I have my first therapy appointment for 04/19. I will let folks here know how that goes.
Good luck, Carly. Feel free to present as female when you see your therapist. That's what my therapist told me, anyway (I presented as male for my first visit, but she told me it would be okay to come as myself).
I'm with Kaiser, and they've been incredibly good. The therapist I've been seeing didn't even blink when I presented as female on my second visit. Heck, the receptionist even "ma'am"ed me. (Well trained!)
They operate a Multi-Specialty Transitions center not too far away, staffed with everything from therapists and GPs to endocrinologists and FFS/GCS surgeons. They're setting me up with a therapy group now, and I expect the endocrinology stuff to follow soon.
