Title: Freaking out about coming out
Post by: OriginalJokeGoesHere on April 26, 2016, 10:07:43 PM
So I have decided to come out tomorrow and I'm freaking out. I kind of just realized that this is basically changing the rest of my life no big deal.

Does anyone have any positive coming out stories (especially at school) to share?

Try to relax and imagine a positive outcome.

You have a coming out letter ... you have materials to show ...
you have thought about it and many people report a feeling of relief afterwards, to be able to be themselves ...

and concerning school you might ask a school counselor to help you, they may help explain to the class, and to other people of the staff.

What I did was I didn't go around saying I was trans, I don't understand that. I just started being me and if people asked if I was trans I said yea. Of course I told my school staff to call me she and stuff. Teachers went along with it, students either hated or loved me, my dad wasn't so thrilled but my mum, grandmum and brothers were excited to have a (grand)daughter/sister. The rest of my family don't refer to me as a girl, but they respect me and haven't threatened me with the bible and excommunicated me from their lives, so it's cool. I think at first some people will flip out, others will smother you with support, but relax, it'll all be normal within a month or few, or for me 4 months, and you'll just be your authentic self
