Title: Bleeding/spotting after roughly 1 year on T
Post by: raichu on May 03, 2016, 04:22:35 AM
Hi, I've been on testosterone for a little over 11 months now and my period stopped after a month on T. About two weeks ago I experienced some spotting for the first time since my last period. I thought it might go away but it's two weeks later and it's only gotten slightly worse. I've made an OB/GYN appointment scheduled a little over a week from now but I'm worried it might be endometrial cancer. Has this happened to anyone else, and if it's possibly endometrial cancer should i try to get an earlier appointment? I'm kinda freaking out about this.

One more thing: I've heard of trans men suddenly bleeding again after lowering their T doses, and mine was too high so the endocrinologist decided to cut it in half about a month before the spotting started, but it should still be within the normal range, and I thought that maybe if if was caused by my T being lowered the spotting would have happened sooner than a month later. idk I can't help but worry.

Hi there,

You can have spotting or breakthrough bleeding at any point on T unless you've had a hysterectomy. There is really no rhyme or reason for it, and it's not something you can predict. It seems to occur in most people within the first year on T, but it isn't unheard of for guys who have been on for multiple years to experience it as well.

I would discuss your concerns with your doctor. There is no data to suggest that testosterone use in transgender men causes an increased risk to reproductive cancers. Everybody's body responds to T differently. The change in dose could definitely have something to do with it. It may just be evening itself out after the drop, or you may need to find a dose in between your current one and the old one in order to make it go away.

raichu, this is not unusually for guys after being on t for some time.  Changing your t dosage could easily be the reason even if your level is still in the cis guy range. Cancer is probably not the cause, just the same you should call your dr and findout what he/she has to say.
