I am a bleeping tech dinosaur and it's very depressing. For my emotional health I now will give up some online stuff I cannot emotionally handle the frustration. This also applies to much employment that requires competence at some tech stuff in which I am a bleeping imbecile.
I give up for good on using gmail and associated products with it. I have an account there I've occasionally used and I cannot get back into my account I don't understand how to successfully navigate their recovery process and there is no phone number to call so I bleeping give up and they have lost a customer. I cannot be a customer for a service I cannot access or understand.
I have uploaded HERE at Susan's exactly ONE photo of myself since I've been here since August 2015 -- my avatar photo. I have hundreds of beautiful photos of myself on my laptop's hard drive but I have absolutely no idea how to upload them on this site. Many others have done so so it is obviously possible but I am too tech stupid to understand how to do it. I cannot find any instructions here on how to upload photos --but even if there are instructions here I might not hve the tech competence to be able to do it anyway. I'm depressed about it. If anyone can help me, please keep it VERY simple and VERY simple step-by-step. Assume that your audience -- me -- is expert in the use of the English language and very well-educated but assume you are speaking with a tech moron who is me.
I have learned to decently use VPN's so I guess I'm not totally stupid with technology. Just medium stupid, lol.
I still cannot use many features of my Samsung Galaxy smartphone so I don't bother. I use my laptop to communicate on the internet. About all I can do on my smartphone is phone calls, text messages, and whatsapp. I have learned how to use tethering to provide a Wifi Zone for my laptop when I need to access the internet in a place without wifi via my laptop.
To upload pics you need a third party carrier such as photo bucket. There are many others. Load your pics to them, make it a private account.
Copy the pic from the third party and paste.
In photo bucket you just need to copy and paste image
In some third party you need to use the[IMG][IMG] and post between them. [IMG][IMG] is the first little picture on the second line above the emoji thingies.

Step by step instructions. I'm actually following them as I write. The moment you encounter something unexpected, please stop and say what you are expecting and what you are finding instead.
- Start a new post at susans.
- Open a new tab/window in your web browser. Whether tab or window, that's entirely a matter of personal choice.
- In this new tab/window, go to imgur. I can't link :). It's imgur dot something, you'll figure it out ;)
- At the top, it says "Upload images". Click on that (on the text, not the down arrow).
- A small popup will appear, click on "browse your computer".
- Now you'll have to actually browse your computer and select the image you want to upload. I can't help here. Any windows user please chime in.
- Click on "Start upload". The image should upload at this point and you'll be redirected to another page. In this new page, you image will show.
- On the right, there's a section "Share this image". The lower border of that section reads "More" with kind of a down arrow. Click there.
- Among the possible choices, there's one called "BBCode (forums)". Select the text within and copy it (you know how to copy&paste, right? If you don't, please say so).
- Come back to the tab/window that has the newly started post on susans.
- Paste the text. It should look like:

- Hit the "Preview" button. The post you're creating should display the image.
- If so, click on "Post". Congratulations!

Don't worry about your phone. They are hard to use :). Calls, whatsapp and tethering is basically all I do with mine.

I tell you a secret.
You can succeed with almost everything if you stay calm and look for instructions.
There are howtos on every subject (lol almost every one) on the internet.
Its also ver likely someone had the same issues as you.
So there usually are explanations out there, just give it a try and be persistent.
And try to stay calm :) Usually things work better then.

I am trying to upload a nice photo of me. I successfully uploaded 2 photos and one video to photobucket. I am trying to copy and paste it from photobucket to susans but unsuccessful so far. I am pretty stupid when it comes to a lot of tech stuff. I just don't understand. I will keep trying.

wow that actually worked I am surprised. it is trial and error for me with this tech stuff I have a long learning curve. the specific suggestions by you gals and guys here helped some but some of your suggestions I tried but I was unable to do correctly so I did it trial and error. I will continue with some more test runs until I for sure can do this with confidence. if admin want to remove any of my test runs feel free as right now I am simply trying to learn.

Well that worked too using the same steps. so I have found a sequence that works. it is different from what anyone said but as long as it works that is good enough for me. Maybe I will try a video now.

With a video of me that I successfully uploaded to photobucket I tried to copy and paste that photo to susans and it said line 1 encoding error. This is why I feel like a tech dinosaur but at least I can do photos now. I will keep trying various tactics to upload a video here which already runs fine on photobucket.

This is complex for me but I am trying. I somehow got 1 video uploaded successfully but it has a hyperlink rather than a direct photo still image to click on to initiate watching the video the way facebook has. I would like to upload a video of me here that has a facebook-style still phot to click on to watch my video.

which of the several brackets here at susans should I use ? img img or sup sup or ftp ftp or hyperlink hyperlink or sub sub ? For the photos img img is just fine but now I need to know which of these brackets is optimal for videos. thx

Another question
youtube offered to edit my original video due to shakiness but of course my video is a selfie so of course it is a little shaky. but the edited version performed by youtube company came back yes steadier but had lots of distortion throughout the video so I have cancelled their editing because the overall quality of my original video is better than their edited version even though indeed it is a little shaky.
The brackets are necessary to show the html link. Otherwise its displayed as player.
Well improvements on vid quality may be tried or not.
It may involve some time since usually it takes some processing.
There are also vid editing programs with different filters that can be tried out.
There are professions dong nothing but video editing.

Actually, this has been a great learning exercise because now I can finally launch my youtube channel and now I know at least the basics for doing so. xx
But I WILL say that this is NOT straightforward for a novice like me who is really slow with new technologies. But better late than never. And I have some basic new useful skills. :)

Despite bring beautiful and having had my photos and videos in newspapers and on TV, I STILL get bullied sometimes online (but seldom do I get bullied in the real world face to face now no matter what country I am in) by both trans bullies and cis (non-trans) bullies. When I get bullied online, it is usually about my physical appearance. Therefore it might be better to deactivate youtube comments right from the get-go. I can always re-activate them later. How do I do this ?

In between all this, I just tried to become a Bronze Subscriber at Susans. The only way Susan's will accept payment is through Pay Pal. I tried to pay with my valid USA-based Visa credit card on Pay Pal. I use this same card to pay in-person and online no matter what country I am in. Pay Pal said I cannot use this card. So I don't know of any way I can become a Bronze subscriber here unless anyone has another idea. I mean, I am very slow at learning new tech stuff but I have ordered online with this same credit card dozens of times. Can anyone help ? Why is it necessary to use Pay Pal? Is this truly the only choice ?

It's important to use both elements of a "tag". The characters [ img] and [ /img] are a pair that must be used together to do what you want.
We can use "bold" font to illustrate:

Now we include the tag [ b] and [ /b]...with a space between the first character after the bracket (so it doesn't work)...
This [ b]word[ /b] is bold.
Now we remove the spaces to see what we want:

If you quote this, you'll see it properly written out.
All tags need both the opening ( [ b]) and closing ( [ /b] ).
Italics is [ i]content goes here[ /i], underline is [ u]content goes here[ /u], image is [ img] content goes here[ /img], etc.
