Hi,
Anyone collect old military guns?
I have some from WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Gulf wars.
I love the historic value and shooting at targets. My favorite is my M1. It was a real battle rifle. Its was used in the Pacific in WWII and again in the Korean war
Hope to hear from other history buffs

My friend does, and last year my boss walked in with an Arisaka for sale. It wasn't duffel cut, had an intact Mum on it, and the cleaning rod, anti-aircraft sights, and bipod were all there. There was no sling, unfortunately. It seemed like a good deal for $250. I'll see if I can get a photo or two of it.
Hugs, Devlyn
The Garand is a beautiful rifle...wish I still had mine. Years ago I got it for $300, but after a couple years in a moment of insanity I traded it straight across for an AR-15a2...
Got an M1a a few years later, but it just didn't have the balance, handling, or ergonomics of the Garand.
I trained with an M1 in ROTC in high school. I've always been interested in old pre civil war weapons. I don't collect or buy them but I do enjoy seeing them in museums. I shoot with a camera these days.
Speaking of black powder...1858 Army (Pietta?), it is a BLAST! to shoot (haha, see wut I done thar?) and my next will be a 32 Rem, looks like a mini Army...
I used to have an FFL so right up front I admit I cheated. Still, if it's smokeless and not French I've very likely owned at least one at this point, with just a few exceptions.
I'll concede that a good FAL is objectively better than almost any alternative, but there really is just something about a Garand. It has no serious competition as the best rifle of its generation, it's a wonderful shooter in its own right, and simply holding one you can almost feel the history just speaking to you across the years. If you've been touched by an M1 Garand, you've got the quality part of a collection covered in one gun.
I had a M1, stupidly sold it to my brother when I had shoulder surgery and ended up buying another. It's 90% Winchester parts including the trigger group and receiver but it's still a mixmaster. I have several Russian 91/30s including a 1933 hex receiver Tula arsenal. I have an 03-A1 with the cutout for a Pederson device and an 03-A3 but unfortunately both have been sporterized. While none of them were military pistols, I have several Colt 1911's. To me, the 1911 is the same in a pistol the M1 Garrand is in a rifle. Perfection.
I've got an 1853 Enfield, reproduction unfortunately. I used to use it for reenacting. I also have my grandfather's M1911 he carried in New Guinea and his M1903 Springfield, but it's the sporterized rather than the military version so it has a different stock.
For more modern military I have a Beretta 92F.

I don't have any old stuff but I do have an AK and an AR and I love them both. It took owning to see why people love them so much. One of the milsurp guns I want to own is a Mosin. I would just love an old beat up WW2 russian rifle :)

Mosin's are great the first four shots. Then the pain nerves in your shoulder connect with your brain. :D

The full size 1891s are actually fairly pleasant, but the M44 carbines are just too brutal to be any fun.
Years ago I had a mosin-nagant, and read something online where they compare a nagant with the ar and ak...
The only bit I can remember is something about "shellac and Olga's toenail clippings".... ??? ;D

Last year when I was at the range, there was a nice gentleman who let me shoot his rifle. It had a shoulder pad on it and personally I found it pretty easy to shoot. It had a scope and looked pretty nice. The scope had the hammer and wheat sickle of soviet russia on it. It was definitely cool. I could feel the blast wave from the rifle and at 100 yards the bullet passed completed through a gong target I was shooting at. It made me want a bolt action rifle.

I should note that my comments are from the point of having a rebuilt right shoulder with one entry point scar right under where the butt of a rifle sits.

Sounds like one of the sniper versions of the 91/30 like was used in the movie "Enemy at the Gates." If it was an original WWII scope and rifle, you got to shoot a treasure.
Others have mentioned ARs and Model 92s. I have a Colt AR-15 (M4 style) but of course semi-auto along with another AR-15 I built in .300 Blackout which I understand some SEALs are using now because the caliber is easily suppressed. I also have a model 92 although not a Beretta.
My grail gun would be an actual U.S. Cavalry issued 1873 Colt Single Action Army but I'm not spending the cost of GRS for one.

"Your rifle's finish is low grade shellac, cosmoline and Olga's toe nails." That is from here:

A lot of comparisons of the AR-15, AK-47 and the Mosin here.

I don't know you yet , but I already like you :-)
I always wondered if transitioning from MTF and taking all these hormones was going to kill off all my hobbies and I would start Knitting . NOPE !
I still adore my Harley , my Norton Commando , and my vast collection of guns :-)
Thank Goddess !
I don't want to veer away from topic but we have the same toys, I have a road King and a zx14 too! That Norton is awesome!
I present as male for now, but I love out shooting a bunch of guys at the range while I'm wearing stockings, garter, pink panties and freshly shaved legs under my shooting outfit. If they knew they would keel over on the spot! ;)

LoL , yes , the Boys at the range , or my old Biker buddies .
If I would have presented TG MTF to my ole crew I would have been murdered . Not joking , I'm an old 81 Nomad .
Guns , we have everything from a 1740 Potzdam Musket too an HK MP5 , and and everything in between , its silly good :-)
My biggest turn on lately are my Cap and Ball Revolvers , 60 of those , and I got into premium high power air rifles too , RWS , HW stuff like that , 24 of those . One of my RWS Rifles wears a $1,400 Mark 4 Leapold if that tells you anything about this Girl :-)
Excellent to meet you !
Awesome load out! And likewise! I only ave about 40 rifles and around 10 pistols. You'll like my M1a. I have a sage battle cage with a cantelevered scope mount, a national match barrel, leupold tactical scope and bipod. Rapid fire 7.62 with a tight MOA.. Good stuff! Have you tried the trijicon ACOGs on the ARs yet?

Lol, you nailed it! Anything with a steel butt plate gets old really fast. I think that's why the Germans suffered so much 8mm rounds with a steel butt plate.. Good luck! :)

You two sound like my kind of people! My collection is mostly old single shot youth type .22 rifles. Those and about 20 S&W revolvers in both pre 1957 non model types and post 1957 with model numbers . One of my S&W's is a 20s era 32.20WCF Hand Ejector that pairs with a 1904 vintage Winchester model 92 in 32.20WCF. I think my favorite shooter outside of my Combat Commander is my Henry Golden Boy .22. The lever action is like glass and it will handle shorts, longs and LRs.
Do either of you hand load? Oh, and I use Trijicon Reflex sights on my ARs, especially on my .300 Blackout.
Damn! You ladies rock! :)

Ha ! There are some cool girls around :-)
I do handload , but strictly for my Antiques , and mostly 32 Smith & Wesson long . I have a nice Allen break action revolver , 1870's ..
You got some nice S&W's , that's understated to say the least ! I usually don't mention anything gun in the LGBTQ anything for a couple reasons , but when I saw this thread I was shocked and elated ;-)
This may turn into the longest thread ever ! LoL
Reminds me and takes me down memory lane in my high school days. I drilled with a M14, in the USMC JROTC in the high school parking lot with my peers, never forgot that feel of that rifle, compared to my military days with the M16A2, or any other rifle thereafter, except a Garand I once had and stupidly sold. Makes me think, I may sell some of my other stuff to buy a M1A, hmmm. We were the last regular units too in the USMC MP field who carried the M1911A1's, before they switched them out to the M9's nowadays the military carries. Yea, I too stay away from the weaponscraft talk and the lgbt and civvy community at large, with todays' political and legal climate. The two don't mix at all.
Tap any word in Blue and you can see the Mauser Album:-)

1903 Springfield Mark 1, .270, double set trigger and tapered barrel similar to a Shilen #7. Notice the opening in the left side of the receiver. It was the ejection port for the Pedersen device which was an attempt to make the rifle semi-automatic.
i have a beautiful m1 garand with matching numbers.
I did not expect to see a post like this on here. It's reassuring i'm not that crazy. I do collect also. haven't got anything lately but below is my collection.
Italian 6.5x52mm Model 38 Fucile Modello 91/38 Carcano
British Enfield No. 4 Mk I
Japanese Arisaka 7.7×58mm Type 99
French MAS 36 (rechambered to 7.62)
Turkish 8x57 Mauser model 38
You're in good company Daniellek74 :). I'm glad to see so many old rifles. I've never met so many antique gun owners. I'll have to post some photos of my own.
And nice rifle Kelly girl!
Do you gals recognize this one?(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi127.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp147%2Fmetzger_photo%2F100_1877.jpg&hash=bad73954b04c98f36ebfd0fa9b1c26070eedc64e)
Kylie,
Franchi SPAS-12.
I removed several posts which brought politics in this thread. The topic is the hobby of collecting old military guns. This is not the place to talk about the politics of guns, open carry, concealed carry, gun control (if you are in favor of it or not), etc. Take topics like that to another web site that is better suited to it.
Love that mannlicher stock kelly girl. At one time I had over 100 various guns, Mosins, mausers, enfields, gew 1888's, vz52's vz52's, k31's k96/11's, carcano's, even had a semi auto 1919 and a auto ordnance 1928. But caring for all of them got tiring and I traded them off for old revolvers. Now I'm down to a 28/30 a finned m91, m39, couple m44's, k98 and a m48. and all the rest are black rifles or old .32 caliber revolvers, I love 32's their so cheap to reload.
