"It often feels like the Confederacy won the Civil War, at least when it comes to LGBT people and the South. So divided is the region from the rest of the country when it comes to sexual orientation and gender identity rights, a map of the legal differences looks like something from the days of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee."
Great work they are doing. I see the Oxford, Alabama ordinance was repealed already. Yay!
And the South talks a good deal, but it comes right down to it, they're not all that "straight" themselves. about 40 years ago a friend and I went camping in Tennessee and met a slightly older guy who told us about in their little town most of the couples were members of this club where one night the guys got together, one night the women got together and on Saturday night they all got together and picked names and whoever they wound up with, the played with for the night. Me thinks they doth protest too loudly
It's a slanted view , but when I think of the south I think of the movie Deliverance .
Well, from the perspective of someone who has lived here in the SE for a good many years, it's nothing like deliverance.

I've gotten a pretty serious Deliverance vibe in more than one place though.
I meant no offense , it's just that I was like 18 when Deliverance played in the theaters and I think it was the same year or the year after Me and a friend hitch hiked down route 66 through the south on our way to California and I think it was Georgia , but not sure, we were picked up by two guys who wanted to give us a job picking cotton or something. To this day I'm not sure how it would of turned out if we accepted. I'm sure the south is a great place , but sweet home Chicago is more my liking..
