Title: Moved the schedule up 6 months - told my brother today
Post by: Denise on May 07, 2016, 03:18:51 PM
I have a very strange family, emotions are never expressed nor shown to anyone.  But today was an extreme example.

A little background:
My sister is my biggest supporter, I came out to her first (before my wife!)  I talk to her every day, she lives about 750 miles (1200 km) from me and we email/text/chat multiple times per day.

My brother lives down the street.  I see him 1/2 dozen times per year, we never talk.  For reasons I don't want to discuss here I had to move my time schedule up to today and tell him about my transitioning.

His reaction was - oh okay.

I think it will take some time to sink in and for him to come up with questions but his stoicism was beyond what I had expected.  He's supportive to the LGBT community so at least that's a good thing.

For other reasons I just spent an hour+ at his place at a party and he was his normal self towards me.  So I guess I dodged a bullet there.

After 45+ years, every step seems surreal and scary.

I hope you are okay with having to move it up sooner.

I am glad it went as well as it did with your brother. I am 51 and hope for similar reactions from my family as well.

This. Yes.

Wishing you a smooth journey.

Things are good.  But his lack of interest was a little disheartening.  Oh well.  Better than a hundred other reactions he could have had.
