Title: OMG I was soooo wrong about makeup
Post by: Rebecca on May 14, 2016, 03:22:33 AM
Decided to let my amazing 11yo daughter do makeup for me so I didn't have to see his face next to my name on my new drivers licence.

Was terrified it was too soon as my hair is still growing and I still have slight very slow facial hair in bits.

I deliberately didn't look as she worked trapped between small hope of looking a bit more like me and the massive fear of seeing him with makeup.

At the big reveal I was in total shock as I processed the simple fact I was wearing makeup for the first time ever. That quickly passed and I was totally blown away at seeing MY face for the first time in the mirror.

Took a selfie and couldn't stop looking at it saying "Wow!". Sounds so conceited but I've never seen myself so clearly before. It's the first pic I've ever seen of me that I think I actually like me in :)

After that was a massive late night hunt for a photo booth for both of us. Encountered loads of people but no negative reactions and we were both totally comfortable and relaxed chatting away as usual. Unfortunately all either broken or on a timer for between 8am and 10pm :( We could have screamed but decided to get a dozen Krispy Kreme instead  lol.

On the plus side we're going back out again after breakfast for my new photo. Will be a bigger challenge as dozens of late night people will become hundreds of day time people but we're both up for it.

Still need to learn to do it all myself but damn my daughter is amazing.

Lovely!!

I recall the first time I had a professional make over. I felt like looking behind the mirror to find the image that was real

This is the kind of support I have from my nieces. It's the best in the world :) Glad you had such a wonderful experience!

Seconding Cindy, you can even do this for cheap, go to a department store in one of the nicer stores (Neimann's, Nordstrom...) and pick a nice brand, say you're transgender and are looking for some tips or a makeover. They will do your makeup for free and give you tons of advice! (You might be pressured to get some of the stuff though...)

My daughter at age 12 likes playing with my makeup tools, including the eye makeup ons. My wife seldom wears makeup. I always do by myself.

Definitely agree with all above and great to hear others having as much fun.

Today went for Braehead to get makeover at Boots and the girl who worked there was great. No appointments available that day but did book me in for tomorrow and assured me she'd be there for a familiar face then tried out some foundations on me.

Went a couple of shades higher than the computer suggested but unanimously agreed the lighter one was better for me. Got my first concealer and foundation. Daughter then did my face in the car using my stuff then hers and nails as a bonus.

Back into Braehead for a wander to find photo machine. Few looks but nothing more than usual. Had a great time getting photos,  lunch and window shopping before meeting up with wife and the little ones for cinema.

Angry Birds was awesome. So funny I was in hysterics but also weepy towards the end. Didn't care if it ruined my make up at the time (fortunately it didn't).

Wife even handled hanging out with me all dolled up which was a very nice surprise. Good for her to spend some time in my world and see all the nice people I meet. Great day :)

HI Jerica  make up can do amazing things. First time a friend who used to be a make up artist did mine. She explained everything as she worked and I watched in a mirror. When she was done I put on a wig and looked in a mirror. I just said wholly ^$$_  I'm a women. I took a picture and that is my profile pic

Your profile pic is seriously amazing and was part of the reason I decided to give it a shot. Between your pic and niceness on your thread you are quite an inspiration.

Wig is tempting but I like to play with my hair too much so I'll just need to wait it out. Getting there but fringe grows so slowly compared the rest which is just slow. Love my cheap rainbow coloured hairband but need my hair just a wee bit longer to get it just right. After that the longer wait for a ponytail, always loved it all pulled back.

Going to keep the make up for special occasions for now as I'm quite happy with my natural face for day to day (so long as my brows and lashes are maintained ofc). Getting way easier to see myself in the mirror these days and totally looking forward to my new licence with my new name and face on it at last. It's very funny comparing the 2 as the guy on the other licence looks like some kind of serial killer off Crimewatch lol.

Was great having a girls day out with my face and nails done but probably be at least a month before I get to do it again due to electrolysis. Kinda got lucky with 2 week gap so got to have my face back for a while. Back to growing next week yuk.

Going to prebook Boots next time though and do it all again :)

awww thanks. I wish I looked like that all the time. but I'm a little lazy, I still can't get those same results on my own and i'm getting electrolysis preety much every week. So, I almost always have some stubble and I HATE putting make up on over it.  wearing a wig isn't all that comfortable either.. I pretty much treat it like women do, I think. Meaning if I'm going out then I do myself all up and put on a wig. the rest of the time I'm oh, natural. I did get this sun screen that has a bit of color to it though. my skin is naturally kind of red and it hides the redness and almost looks like a foundation but you can't tell at all that I have it on. Love it!

Pretty much the same from the little lazy bit. Haven't even started learning how to do my own face yet but plenty of time and daughter (S) is keen to teach me. She's really great (as in for real not just deluded dad syndrome lol) with her make up going all out mixing her own colours for eyes etc so lucky to have her. Helps we also have very similar tastes and preferences for colours and fashion.

The stubble part for electrolysis is without a doubt the hardest thing I have to do in my life. Looking like I've been attacked by a swarm of angry bees would be second. Despite that I do actually love my electrolysis and in for 3h next Saturday then full body laser on the Sunday. Will be hair removal heaven lol.

Wife and S are both good at cheering me up when I start to feel ugly by reminding me it's not really for that long until it's all finished.

Defo feel the same way about makeup after electrolysis even though I've been assured it's fine to apply on top of the witch hazel gel.

That sunscreen sounds like a good find and I'd be willing to wager that if not able to reproduce your profile pic you'll be pretty close.

Defo a labour of love to look like ourselves and totally worth the efforts we take :)
