Title: Name change issues
Post by: Stevie on May 14, 2016, 07:42:21 PM

Last week I received my sample ballot and I was really happy that the name was right on it. Yesterday I got a letter from the IRS and its addressed to my dead name. I changed my name back in November, my W2s and other documents filed with them were with my new name. Today I got a refund check from the state and it has my dead name as well. All the information I can find about name change with IRS and state tax say to change you name with the Social Security office which I did back I November.  I am not ever going to sign anything with my old name again I am just going to sign the check with my new name. I didn't think something like this would upset me so much , but it does.

It can happen in regards to items from previous tax years. Your name change was so late in the year by the time the IRS got it from Social security it was to late for that tax year resulting in your dead name most likely. I had an item on my taxes this time with my dead name on it because it was for work years ago so it can happen. Hugs
