Title: Trans and a Gamer
Post by: Trishme on May 14, 2016, 09:38:12 PM
I'm a lover of games; both on and off offline. I recentlly left a fleet (Star Trek Online) that was dying and joined a new one. The old fleet was text chat but the new fleet is voice. I used my "man" voice. I don't want to lie, but also don't want to be restricted to just lgbt fleets. Any advice?

I'm a Girl!! feels so good to say that!

Even though voice is a lot of times associated with gender- it doesn't always have to be. You can teach some people new lessons by having a deeper voice while also being a girl.

We have a voice forum where we work with both trained and surgical voices. Over the years many people have posted to it and there are several of us who tend the area even though we are past the need for it. Not all voices are trainable and it's a fair amount of work to do it but you might want to visit it.

In Eve, I just did my best and made it clear I am a woman. I have been Fleet Commander of over 50 people in one battle before and no one really questioned, I suppose I have done some voice training, but, nothing professional. It doesn't take much practice to dramatically change the way you sound.

A couple of my STO characters are in LGBT fleets, but I've got a couple in the Island of Misfit Toys.  It seems to be all text, pretty friendly, laid back, and really just about getting fleet toys.  I can't get a Klingon in there for some reason, but I've got a Fed and a Romulan who are doing fine.
