Something is happening that I never, ever could have foreseen and it's happening very soon. When I came out to my father I was very nervous, not knowing how he would react. He's very conservative and has used homophobic language many times over the years so I wasn't expecting the best reaction from him. I ended up sending him an email telling him everything - realizing I was a girl at five, growing up depressed and trans, finding out I'm intersex, all of it. I hit send and waited for the worst. He and I have had a stormy relationship over the years, very tumultuous and filled with vicious arguments and two times when things almost came to blows.
Instead of the worst I received a long email back from him that was so loving, so understanding, that I was in tears reading it (at work). Since then our relationship has changed immensely. He treats me with love, calls me his daughter, uses terms of endearment he never used with me as his son. It's been a wonderful thing as I've always wanted a better relationship with him but was never able to make it happen.
Several months ago he made an offer so generous it was staggering. He offered to take a home loan against the equity in the house to finance my transition. The money should be in the account he opened in both of our names Saturday and I will begin to move my transition forward after nearly two years of HRT and electro. I'm very excited and terrified at the same time and never thought the day would come when I could fully transition.
I can't wait to move forward!
OH MY! I'm speechless. That's, that's, that's wonderful!
:) There ya go! For the doubters, tigers do indeed change their spots.
Hugs, Devlyn
What a great story! We hear so many bad ones, it's nice to hear when things work out :)
That's great, a lovely generous offer from him. A shame a few more father's with trans children couldn't follow his lead.

That is fantastic! What a great relief that must be.
Enjoy this moment and keep it as a moment to borrow when things are not so bright.
With warmth,
Joanna
Beautiful story. A friend's parents did the same thing. Took out a second mortgage to pay for her surgery.
How wonderful and heartwarming. He deserves a Dad of the year award.
That's absolutely amazing. It must feel wonderful to have him in your corner.
Good luck with your journey.
Paige:)

wynternight that is an incredible story! I'm so happy for you, good luck to you.
Thank you all. :) I'm very, very happy how well things have worked out with my father and I. I feel as if I've finally gained the father I've wanted all of my life. That's as great a source of joy as being able to move forward in my transition. I know there will negative reactions, pain, and rejection coming but I have the support of my family, closest friends and everyone here to rely upon when the not-so-good times come.
