Title: Oh boy was I wrong! An apology!
Post by: Rejennyrated on May 25, 2016, 12:56:26 AM
And not quite a farewell.

As some of you may know I've been participating here since about 2007.

Back then I was already successfuly well over 20 years postop and had popped in to do some research for a writing project, but ended up becoming a moderator, and stayed for about four years until my 25 years life partner died unexpectedly. I then had something of a hiatus until a couple of years back I rejoined as a rather lonely medical student, only to find myself unexpectedly meeting and falling in love with the rather wonderful, and now postop woman, Susan, who in just over a month will become the second Mrs Rejennyrated, because we are getting married.

Well as some may recall, I've been known for my no-nonsense robust approach to transition and GRS and I've sometimes poked a bit of fun at all the drama and all those panicking about some little hiccup with their meds, their surgery, or their life. For me, even back 30 years ago, it was all pretty easy and trouble free. I've always secretly thought that you lot were a bunch of moaners whiners and drama queens when you had little panics about surgery and the problems associated with it.

WELL...  ::)

I now realise I was very wrong. GCS is NOT easy :o These past couple of weeks I've watched helplessly as susan has suffered complication after complication, and on a couple of occasions been extremely poorly following her surgery. Its now clear to me that this surgery and the recovery from it is a long hard bumpy road, and far from easy... and I probably should have been a lot more sympathetic. (Ironic for me to be saying that as a trainee medic no?)

So in the interests of satisfying karma and hopefully finally getting it off our backs, I'd like to apologise to anyone to whom I have previously been rather dismissive over your fears of GCS or any post surgery complications... I now realise that it is indeed a scary, difficult, and at times maybe even life threatening thing to go through, and I was just extremely lucky.

That said I hope Susan will eventually manage to make a full recovery. We have been making small steps forward in-between repeated bleeds, infections, and other problems, and we are soon approaching the point where her journey here will be done and we will walk off together into the sunset.

Meanwhile I just wanted to say sorry if I have been unfairly dismissive of your fears. I was wrong, it is a big scary procedure, and it deserves to be treated with respect. That said if it is right for you, then you should still do it, because it really is the only way to find the peace and contentment in your own skin that we all deserve. Either way I wish you all good luck.

Any time something comes easily to someone they're much more likely to be dismissive of those who have a harder time. Part of the just-world fallacy, I think.

That said, I really don't understand why everyone else is so horrible at video games. They must not try hard enough....

Seriously though, good luck to both of you, I hope Susan gets better soon!

Good luck to Susan, and I hope this doesn't last too much longer for everything to subside and everything gets to a happy and easier road.
I hope you don't burden yourself so much with this all in mind.

Good for you Jenny. And I hope Susan recovers well.

I myself had a few complications...it was tough but here I am 5+ years later doing well.

Everyone's path is different and it's good to respect them as such.
