Title: Any Luck With GoFundMe?
Post by: Brayden on May 27, 2016, 03:34:01 PM
I've seen a lot of posts and videos about GoFundMe accounts for top surgery.
Has it made a difference financially for anyone?

I don't have a Go Fund Me oage; but it seems to only work for trans people who are quite well known on Tumblr. Some people will want to donate to a random stranger; but others are more encouraged if they get to know you through a blog. Don't mean to discourage you; just good to keep in mind.

I know people who are well known in the trans community of youtube has had some luck.
Not much luck with people who are not too involved.

You are better off getting a job and making the money than asking for it.

Unless you're well known, you probably won't have much luck. If you think it would mostly be family and friends who would donate, it's probably best to just ask them directly.

What everyone else said...if people don't know you to begin with (online or in person) they are very unlikely to donate.

Echoing everyone else. A job will be much better. Not to mention the sheer amount of trans folk out there who have created transition funds on GoFundMe and the like... It's really impossible to try and donate to everyone, even if people wanted to.
Plus, I'm of the mentality that earning your own money is more honorable, but that's just my opinion.

I'm the same way, when I see go fund me accounts and what not (or when they first came out and used for personal stuff) I felt that it was a pity way to earn money.
I support new evolutionary projects like the mighty wallet and what not.

I have a job, but finances are always an issue.
Just curious.
