Title: First Day as a MTF Serve/Waitress
Post by: BrittanyNicole on June 06, 2016, 01:33:46 AM
Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a new experience with the world today, my first day as a server/waitress as a transwoman and boy let me say that the experience was something I never ever expected.

Let me start off this little story with the type of establishment it is, it is a sports bar type restaurant that serves buffalo wings along with a few different items (just for the record it is not a certain restaurant with an owl or any similar place  :P) I previously worked there in the past when I formally presented myself as a male and went back to speak with the manager about the possibility of returning in my new gender and to my unexpected surprise he said "welcome back" which is something I did not expect in a million years.

After that meeting I was given a date for orientation which I was required to attend given that I was going to be treated as a "new" employee as opposed to a returning one so a few days later I was off to work and upon arrival I was treated with the upmost respect by my old coworkers who were told ahead of time by the manager (with my approval) and I patiently waited in the meeting room for the orientation to start. During the 4 hour meeting we (it was me and two other girls) we were given the basic information about the business and expectation which were nothing new but the last part was something I never thought I would have expected........uniform policy (which is very very different from males employees in the same position).

We were given the basic company top (a t-shirt and Polo shirt) and 4 pairs of bottoms (hot pants/shorts, crop leggings, capri leggings and ankle leggings) now this was something I was not really too comfortable for obvious reasons and I spoke with the manager about different options however he stuck to his guns about uniform policy for all female employees and I was no exception to the rules.

The last 4 hours of my shift was shadowing an experienced server/waitress even though I have more than enough experience. I actually took the lead position and non of the customers (or guests as we call them) made a scene about being waited on by a transgender person so the experience was better than expected. When my shift was complete I was called in by the manager to address a comment card left by a guest, I expected something bad but on the contrary it was a praise to both the company for having the courage to hire a trans person and to me for my level of professionalism to the guest and his family.

This "new" experience was such a huge confidence booster that I told the manager that I was extremely excited about the opportunity and would love to continue working there despite the fact that I have a full time job pending which he said was be okay as I could work part time when possible.

I apologize for the long long story but I felt it was necessary to share the experience with everyone.

Great story and thanks for sharing - sometimes all I hear are bad stories which exaggerates by own feelings of concern, but reading your story and how positive an experience it has been gives me hope.

Congratz

This is very encouraging, although I have this thing about being seen as a transwoman. I've not changed my presentation yet however when I do I'm going have done as much as I can to ensure I'm going to pass as a CIS woman. I'm absolutely terrified of being read as trans by potential clients. I obviously can't hide the facts from existing clients but am worried about how new clients will react to me. I have to work hard to pick up new clients and this will just make things more difficult. It's killing me in fact  :'( :'(

BrittanyNicole - Congratualtions

Your being accepted so positively as a trans-woman was wonderful. You can now look forward to being accepted as a cis-woman.
