Title: hello
Post by: Sikhandin on June 11, 2016, 03:30:33 PM
Okay, well, first, hello everyone.

I'm new to everything, and I've only realised this year. I'm gender-queer.

Well, my story isn't overly interesting, because there's not much to tell. I've always been interested with gender and sexuality, so I already knew some things about it. When I realised what I was, I wasn't particularly surprised. I kind of feel that everybody is forced into a body that is not ideal at birth, but those problems people have differ. My family would be supportive, I know it. I'm the first transgender (that I know of) in my family. I don't think I'll ever have surgery, or change my name. My name is just a name, after all. My goal is to do whatever I feel like doing, as long as it's legal. If I ever have children, I'm not telling my family their sex right away, and I'll choose androgynous clothing.. at least, those are my thoughts. I want to be a psychologist when I'm older. If you have questions, go ahead and ask.

Welcome, Sikhandin!  I think you've found one of the best places on the Web for help with gender and orientation issues.   There are a lot of really knowledgable folks here, friendly and ready to help.

I bet one of the official folks will be along to welcome you shortly. I just wanted to say Hi!

Welcome! I agree, the whole nature versus nurture thing and the imprint of gender through our culture isn't fair. If I ever have kids I'll be sure to shield them as much as I can from society imprinting the ridiculous gender norms.

I remember as a kid for me, I enjoyed girly things until ridiculous religion and society told me that was wrong in their opinion.

Anyway, glad to meet someone with similar mindset.

Nice to meet you Sikhandin. I am happy you want to continue your education in psychology as we need more professionals who truly understand just what being trans is about. I think the longer you are on this site the better you will understand gender fluidity and all it entails. I never finished my master's in mental health counseling, I switched programs and became a nurse. On your way to becoming a PsyD. you might want to look at getting you master's in social work or mental health counseling and work in the field to support your doctoral studies.
