Title: Do I need plastic surgery to pass?
Post by: BattleKatt on June 12, 2016, 03:33:24 PM
Hey, I'm sorry for how ->-bleeped-<-ty and entitled I'm going to sound in this post but it's been bothering me for a while. I've been on hrt for about 5 months (check ticker) with fairly good results. My features look more feminine, I'm now about a bb cup and my skin is much clearer. That said, I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I'm going to have to get facial surgery to pass at all. I'm not sure if I'm just being impatient or self critical but all I can see in pictures of myself is how masculine I still look. I'll post picture but basically what I'm wondering is if you guys agree that I need surgery to pass and if so what exactly I should get.

Thanks a lot

I too have a worry about passing.  I am going to be starting hrt in a couple weeks, but wonder if I am going to need ffs, or if I will pass without it. Any thoughts from anybody would be helpful. I know I could of been smiling in the pic.  It looks like I can't get a pic up, so here is a link.

Thanks,

I can't see your picture, Katt, but I would be willing to bet that you will pass. It's more attitude and presentation than anything. Remember, you only need to be recognized as a woman, being recognized as a BEAUTIFUL woman is another kettle of fish. I get misgendered infrequently, no more often than my cisgender friends report. Most often that's in my work uniform of khakis and a polo shirt.

Here's where I started:

And here I am now (my icon, larger for comparison):

If I pass, anyone can!

Hi,

Loose weight now.  Its harder post transition.  That will help quit a bit.

Passing is about more than just looks BUT looks do play a role.  Start electrolysis now.  Let your hair grow.

First surgery and possibly only surgery is lips.  That could well be enough.

Hugs

Jen

The cautious way: I would suggest to wait a while, hormones take years. Even after 2 years of GRS I notice that hormones still rearrange things. There has been warnings about doing FFS too fast, even surgeons need to know how long you've been on hormones as the face changes because of fat distribution, and a couple of months is really not that much.

The same applies for BA (Breast augmentation) I was lucky genetically and ended up with a B/C, however it took years to achieve it. If I applied for BA too early, I would have become massive... and might regretted it.

Patience is truly a virtue being T.

I'm no expert, but I think you'll pass just fine with long hair, actually. You may want to "signal" female by sculpting your brow line or at least combing them a bit. Your skin actually looks like you're already on HRT to me and I bet you'll look even better on it.

I think it might be difficult for you to pass. But growing out your hair, remove all the facial hair and maybe changing your glasses to a more feminine version would help a bit. You also need HRT to pass. It would soften your skin and a fat distribution would happen. It's hard to tell if you need FFS or not, pre-HRT. I think you should have been on HRT in ca. 2 years before considering surgery. HRT can change much of your face.

HRT may change your face a lot.  It did mine.  It takes a while though and after a year and a half it's still changing.

I glanced at the mirror yesterday and nearly didn't recognize myself.
