Title: Do I look older with a shorter haircut or a hightop fade?
Post by: Brandon on June 12, 2016, 05:34:25 PM
I am getting ready to start T before the summer is up probably late July but for the time being I wanna look my actual age, I mean its summertime and I hang with friends and what not but anyways most people age me at 16 ish but some people have said even lower like 13 and it kind of pisses me off, I know when I wear tighter shirts it brings out my muscles and my shoulders a lot more but as far as a haircut I am curious to know if a shorter haircut makes me look older vs the hightop fade I know its kind of hard to see my face on the right but I don't really take that many pictures unless its to change my instagram or fb page picture but any help would be appreciated.

Hair doesn't really make a difference to how old you appear IMO. It's more so a facial thing.

Actually, it can make a big difference.

Honestly, I'm bad at telling how old people are but I wouldn't say you look too young. They're very likely judging your age based on your height though.

I think the high top fade makes you look older. It's something a grown up and not a child would have. If a white ftm had a zac efron in high school musical sort of haircut; it'll mostly make them look younger than if they had an undercut or quiff. Because young teens/children don't have the latter hairstyle.

sorry I truly mean no harm , but I wouldn't let age be a factor one way or another  unless you look like Dick Clark who looked like a teenager at 65.

I have been told otherwise cuz if you think about it that's why when it comes to alot of black men they tend to buz it all off when they get older because in a way it does make you look more mature. I mean I have never seen a old man with a hightop fade lol cuz you gotta grow up at some point or another but that's just my oppinion

See it varies because some people say its my height which I am about 5'5 but then others are like no its your face because my voice is not all that high tbh I am actually pretty lucky when it comes to looking how I identify myself but I know when I had my hair cut short I was told I look sixteen which I am 3 years older than that but at the time I was 18 but since I have had my hair grown out at the type I tend to get age a lot younger like when I had my afro lol.

I have seen a lot of younger black kids with them but you are right its generally teenagers and maybe 20s atleast for a black guy I know I mean because I also have a part in mine that starts kind of in the middle and older people don't really get parts I'm their hair

Well, being mistaken for 16 when you were 18 is something that happens to a lot of people, trans or not. What's worse is being 18 and being mistaken for 10-12 every single time someone looks at you. On the other hand, looking younger does have its perks, so you could make use of it.

Yeah see another thing is no one in my family really ages, male or female, we all look slightly younger than what we actually are so even when testosttone kicks in I will still look pretty young tbh. People call me pretty boy. But I mean ig its not that bad one of the basketball players I like; Steph Curry looks really young especially if he shaved his beard and he's almost pushing 30. So its not that bad I guess its just when I go certain places like the movies and there is a Rated R movie playing, I generally get looked at, shockingly nobody has questioned me but I try to be grateful about because when I get really old ill still look young.

I had this same problem, and I am 33. Needless to say I've stopped dying my hair to let the grey in.  I've decided to go with more of a mid fade with a swooping V in the back and layers on top since I have thin hair.

Bottom line no matter what the race I've found if you have more of a groomed clean cut look it helps, no decals (i looked much younger), flashy styles unless you dress to go with the style and keep as much side burns as you can and dont point them unless you got a beard of stash growing in. If you get a line up make sure they stick close to your natural hair line as possible because when it grows out there is less transition and stray hairs.

I'm diggin the fade dude. I thinks it's a great cut, very clean. It was a big deal in the 80's and 90's with younger kids but I feel now it's more of a grown up thing. I've seen some older guys with it wearing suits and it looks awesome. It's all about the confidence you bring with your cut.

Exactly what I was thinking and I know its with any race I normally I get them pointed tho

I think you look older on the left, with the shorter hair.  I also think the part in your hair makes you look younger.

Looking fresh B... I'm quite shaggy myself and need to go get a cut soon....

pet peeve when you finally find a good barber and they move away, you find another one that fixes your hair from a few bad cuts and it looks great and they are across town and booked when you have the money for a cut... {trans guy problems}
