Title: Zygomatic sandwich osteotomy
Post by: 2cherry on June 21, 2016, 01:53:50 PM
Did anyone has experience with zygomatic sandwich osteotomy instead of cheek implants?

These days implants are common, but my surgeon told me that there is another approach, the zygomatic sandwich osteotomy, where he saws the cheekbone and move it forward in an angle to let it project more.

I read that girls have many troubles with cheek implant pain/sensitivity, at least, this is what I make up from different stories so far. Zygomatic sandwich osteotomy, a good alternative? although it's pretty invasive... but then again, what's not invasive having FFS

That's pretty interesting.  After reading further about the procedure I would have been interested in it if it had been offered along with FFS.

It works like this:

It's cut, and then a piece is inserted, or the angle is changed to project it laterally. I'm not a surgeon, so I could be wrong. Here's a paper (https://www.academia.edu/6713049/2002_Aesthesic_malar_recontouring_zygomatic_sandwich_osteotomy._FPSCNA)

Noorman explains it as follows (http://www.noormanvanderdussen.com/feminization/cheek-bone-correction.html):

QuoteThere is also a possibility to widen the arch and body of the zygoma (cheekbone) with an osteotomy, and putting a wedge (piece of bone) in between the gap

Looks very interesting.....
I have been thinking about doing something subtle for my midface/cheekbones aswell, but been a bit to paranoid of implants as I dont want to make them too prominent. Also..who knows what happens to the implants in lets say...25 years in the future :/
