"WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon is poised to announce new rules allowing transgender individuals to serve openly in the U.S. military, amid concerns from senior military leaders who believe the department is moving too fast and has yet to resolve many details, U.S. officials told The Associated Press.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter is expected to announce the new policy this week, nearly a year after announcing his intention to make the change. The move would end one of the last bans on service in the military."
I had posted the below quote but then found your post... you are too fast and/or I need to get up earlier. ;D I removed my separate post and replied here fwiw. Thank you for all your news posts!

This is absolutely wonderful news! I am sitting at my reserve unit right now and thinking about how soon I'll come out to them.

And it has been lifted!! :D This is by far one my most happiest days of my life, I have been in the U.S. Army as an 11b (infantry) and on hormone replacement therapy for 7 months with the awesome doctors that the army has provided me. However it is really nice to know that, as a whole, I am protected under new policies and my leaders have to abide to them. I actually get to talk to my First sergeant and company commander after this holiday. And I am just extremely excited to finally have an actual voice, not only backed up by many great people, but federally as well :)
I was just watching the official news announcement 8)
Although it comes too late for the many who were adversely effected by the former military policy I am very happy for the current and future personnel who are and may be considering to serve
I'm thinking (and hoping) this is going to be a much bigger deal for us than we imagine (positive). I can imagine TG soldiers having reinvigorated pride in wearing the uniform and possibly working harder and advancing further up the ranks. Good luck to all that serve but especially our TG sisters and brothers. To see a TG officer commanding platoons to regiments to aircraft carriers to squadrons will be amazing. We all know what we TG's are capable of in terms of endurance and intelligence and ability.
I really really hope this sticks and we all can start becoming who we were meant to be!
I've waited all too long for this and not too sure if I should try searching for my own doctor and such, or should I wait for the medical with the services to pan out.
