Title: I hate waiting...
Post by: Darlig Ulv on July 06, 2016, 09:06:05 PM
Got ahold of a clinic and set up an appointment to do bloodwork and such to start HRT but it's not until Nov because they're booked up, hopefully someone cancels so i can get in sooner. Anyone else have to wait 2 or so months to get started?

I'll be waiting ten months minimum for my initial Gender Identity Clinic appointment here in the UK. Keeping track with the help of the counter in my signature. :)

I waited a year for CAMHS when I was under 18, who then gave me two appointments over an 8 month period, before referring me to Nottingham GIC which informed me I'd have to wait 16 months for an appointment.

It took me at least 8 months to find a place to go from when I decided to look. Then it was 4 months to get a appointment, then 3 months before they prescribed, now that I have been on HRT for 4 months... it was worth the wait!

About 12 months from speaking to my Dr (GP) to getting my first script from Gynecologist...I was lucky most girls in Adelaide are waiting 12 months plus just to see the Psych.

From the time I decided to do something until the time I had HRT approval was about four weeks.  Then it took me another six weeks before I actually went to see the endo.  Money was tight at the time or I could have done it all faster.

It took me a years worth of searching and making appointments, and getting referrals just to see a Psych. Then another year afterwards before I could find an MD to start HRT. This is in western Canada though, on the prairies which is kind of our bible belt. Also had a few bad incidents with Dr's that were completely horrible (got kicked out of an MD's office for being a "freak").

I was quite lucky because we're I live.  If you've been seeing your Dr for more than 2 years, he's allowed to psychologically evaluate you so I had started my hrt almost immediately after asking my doctor (like a week or so)

                                       Love,  Sarina!

I didn't have to wait for a therapist's letter, because I had already been seeing a gender therapist about ten months before I decided to try HRT.  She even gave me a list of trans-friendly endocrinologists.  I just picked the one in my insurance network. The appointment with the endocrinologist took three months, though.

In Ontario, Canada, CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) in Toronto is the only place currently to get GRS approved.  There's quite the backlog, because of demand, to get in. It's more than a year.  For those wishing hormone treatment, they have a letter on their website for family doctors. Here's a part of it:

We are encouraging you as family doctors to conduct your own assessments for hormone therapy (HT), working in partnership with other professionals and organizations as necessary. There are a number of excellent resources that might help you.

Basically they're encouraging family doctors to treat and prescribe HRT.  My family doctor prescribed my hormones when I wanted them without delay.

It's too bad there's such a gatekeeper mentally in so many other parts of the world.

I've received my letter from therapist 2 months ago.. Made my endo appointment a month ago.. Still have 6 weeks for that appointment. I've been dealing with GD for 20 years, what's a few more months.

The biggest roadblock for me was fighting with insurance. My doctor just ended up sending me to another place that is experienced with dealing with that, though. Then it wasn't a problem.

I have always seen regular "family doctors" for my hormones. I have never had long waits. Even when I first started, the doctor prescribed mine right away, after a proper examination.

You may find that "specialists" will almost always require lengthy waiting periods. This may be even worse if your insurance requires you to have a referral from your primary care, which is the one that should probably be prescribing your treatments in the first place. Personally, I have never had my primary care doctor refer me to anyone else just for hormones.

Group Health / Kaiser has been very good to me so far and we seem to be moving right along.

I'm so jelly of you. I am making the call tomorrow to see if I can set my first appointment. I hope I don't have to wait to long.

Yeah it's okay. I have only gotten this far because I paid with what limited money I have (I'm a student and 2/3 of my cash goes on rent) to use a private service after waiting for 2 years on the NHS.
