Title: Surgery Date is in 3 months Ocotber 12 2016 w/ Dr Brassard - my journey to the V
Post by: jujubes1986 on July 12, 2016, 09:46:32 AM
Hello girls!

Call me Juju... Im from Toronto. Im gonna blog my srs journey... I know it's 3 months away and i still need to get blood work done ekg for me to know exactly if Ill be able to do my srs. I want advice pre surgery and post surgery... Im really excited... once I got the surgery date from suzanne (dr brassard admin main person i think) on june 29th 2016 I was shocked how soon it was... anyway i told my employer in january that im trans and luckily they are very supportive i told them als at that time that sometimes this year i will be getting the surgery. so just yesterday july 11 i told them i got the surgery date. so ill be off from october 12 2016 to jaunary 16 2017... i got 3 months off... cuz i heard dilation will take most of my time along with douching, sitz bath and i wont be able to do much really... i sit and stand a lot at work... i am a dental assistant part time... so i think 3 months off is enough for me to heal up somehow... anyway... i  would appreciate if i get any advise from post op girls on what to do and what not to do... oh i stopped hormones 3 months prior because i wanna have enough scrotal skin for dr brassard to work with... im not very well endowed and i wanna have at least 5,5 inches depth...

until next time :)
JUJU

Congrats. You don't need to stop hormones 3 months prior. It won't have any effect on your scrotal skin (in 3 months). Follow what the booklet that Suzanne will send you. Feel free to ask questions, I am a Brassard graduate as well, class of Nov 14 :)

I don't think it matters, but my personal opinion is that when you stop for that long the T will start to creep back up and you will set yourself further back from where your body wants to be. I think he only recommends 3-2 weeks prior to the surgery itself. And I was small before too but have no problem getting 5.5 and that is his target depth. If you are lacking he will do a skin graft on you to compensate. Just make sure you follow the post op care regiment and don't skimp on one if not absolutely necessary.

When they have everything and maybe 1 month before they will send you all the paperwork in the mail. You will have to fill some of it such as when will you be arriving and via what mode of transportation. The pre-surgery questionnaire and a bunch of other things. Once you send all of those all you need to do is prepare yourself mentally and make plans on having someone to help you when you are back in Toronto for getting around or getting food. Have some lubes, blue pads, not too many sanitary napkins (I bought too much lol) ready. Take one step at a time so you won't get confused on what's needed.

Hi, my experience, six weeks was plenty of time for recovery, went back to work and adjusted my dilation schedule from 3 times a day for 20 minutes to two times a day for 30 minutes. Once before work then once after dinner.

Yeah, I went to Brassard and I was actually back at work by 4 weeks exactly; I probably could have used another week, but that was it. I was 90% back to normal by about  2 months, even. :) (I still tired easily for months, but not enough to interfere with working.) But I had a desk job, so I could see needing another couple weeks to be up to a lot of standing.

Congrats on getting a date!

3 months OHIP approval is nothing... it took me 2 years for CAMH to respond to me.... and 5 months for them to approve me... but once i got approve in feb 2016 i didnt contact brassard right away... i contacted them late april then by june 29 2016 thats when they gave me surgery date which was 3 months away at the time... now 56 days away :) im so excited... i think my confirmation letter arrives this tuesday coming up... dr brassard's clinic is close for the summer they open on august 22 :)

ANYWAY... I WILL BE POSTING 3 WEEKS BEFORE MY SURGERY AND MY PREPARATIONS PRIOR THE SURGERY... AND OF COURSE AS SOON AS IM ABLE TO POST AFTER MY SURGERY ILL POST RIGHT AWAY...

AM I ALLOWED TO ATTACH PICTURES? AND WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR THAT LOL

Sorry I was more meaning from the new system I'm at 2 years with camh and I still haven't even heard from them yet probably have surgery before I hear from them lol. But either way I look forward to hearing about your experience in Montreal just to give me a heads up. Hopefully you can post pictures cause it would be for education

I don't think you are allowed to post such pictures here. Linking it to your personal blog/page/imgur might be ok I think. There's  plenty of other Dr B's patient who posted anonymously on the surgery result. There's also some group on fb for Dr B former patients and soon to be patients (jujubes if you are interested, let me know)

A little update...

I have faxed the clinic everything they needed for my surgery...

I am stocking on supplies that I need when I get back home... Sanitary napkins, lubes, blue pee pads, vaginal douche etc

I gave them my travel itinerary... My boyfriend is going to drive me there and I will fly back home... The bf will stay until the surgery and he goes home...

October 10 I'll be arriving in MTL and going straight to the bed and breakfast.

October 11 is when I do bowel prep and shaving the surgical site

In the morning off the surgery is when they decide which pt goes in for surgery... This is when you get to meet the doctor for pre consultation...

Anyway... I made a Twitter account where I'll be updating with pics as I go into surgery :)

@iamjuju1234 add me up on Twitter
