Title: Anita Sarkeesian's feminist frequency.
Post by: JMJW on July 15, 2016, 10:48:26 AM
I watched her latest video (lingere is not armour) the other day and my jaw just about hit the ground.

She spends about what seems like twenty minutes arguing against skimpy female characters in games. Which is par for the course for her. She came to the conclusion that its all down to misogyny. However during those 20 minutes, I stated to think nothing pleases this woman. But it was all about sexist outfits and poses up till now.

Then she said it's time to look at how to show female sexuality without sexualization. As an artist, I thought great. Lets see what designs she counts as sexy but not sexualized. After all, she was talking about that.

Then she lists examples of female characters propositioning others for sex. An underage lesbian couple, and a proposition over the radio.

Therefore, she directly compares wearing skimpy clothes with a sexual proposition. She literally argues; Don't dress up your female characters in skimpy clothes, have them proposition people for sex instead, cos that shows agency.

She's only bringing up that alternative, a sexual proposition, because these characters are skimpy. She would not bring that up if they were wearing 3 piece suits.

So it literally is the rapist's argument, "Look at what she's wearing, she was asking for sex.... so just have her ask for sex!!"

I'm convinced that some folks go through life wedded to dysfunctional ideologies, determined to rationalize them at any cost, and working hard to remain blind to failures in their ideology and reasoning.

These are folks that can't really be argued with.  They're incapable of processing anything contradictory to their belief system.

Dont be suprised i have seen some of her video's and the arguments she makes are never good. There are tons of video's debunking pretty much all her claims. Besides i dont even think she understand games very much becaus part of her arguments are that the woman in video games dont represent woman irl when video games are just supposed to be entertainment not a perfect reflection of irl.

That (especially the debunking part) and her hypocrisy towards other women and feminism are the main reasons to avoid this woman and not take her seriously.

I hold Anita Sarkeesian in the same regard as batman;

'The hero the world deserves right now, not the one it needs.'

She's on par with the Kardashians, Amy Schumer, and Madonna for me as far as self serving behavior and narcissism. (First world feminism, yay!) Her circular logic and labelling of everything is tiresome and pedantic. Of course everything is sexist if you look hard enough. Because given context you can apply it to anything if you look hard enough.. Its not the facts that change just perspective given new 'insight.'

Better role models please.

I've never watched one of her videos, but I've heard many people talk about her as if she's the anti-Christ.

She's good at what she does - scamming people into believing anything she does is useful at all.
