I ran a search and the only posts I saw concerning NJ were a few years back so I hope it's okay to make another one. If not my apologies. I live in northern NJ, Essex county area, and am interested to see if there is anyone else from the boards close by. I have met a small handful of people from NJ through friends but most don't live anywhere near me or aren't very chatty or overly friendly.
This Joisey Girl born and bred in beautiful downtown Bayonne is now in the Hackensack-ack-ack area. So not quite Essex County. I know of another "Local(ish)" woman so you are far from alone. Plus with the stats being 0.2% (min) to 0.5% of the population being TG.... As I said to HR a few weeks ago, with 200 heads here, odds are pretty good someone (wink wink) is TG so just why do our health insurance violate our "Diversity" policy?"
There is an active support group in Highland Park, Jersey Pride, not too far away and another in Jersey City. Hudson County Pride? I haven't been there. And in Monmouth/Ocean cty area (where I work) there is Ocean County PFLAG with a fantastic outreach.
As you may have noted by now.... Folks in NJ are.... Messed up. "You live your live, I'll live mine." Once you get past a 35' x 100' lot the attitude gets worse. I may have been born in Bayonne but I traveled the world and a good part of the USA. People here are.... a product of their environment.
I'm no Time Lord, but do have.... multiple corporal forms and lives. Unfortunately not near you but will do what I can to help you within my abilities

Thanks so much Joanne! ;D I have been presenting in certain situations for a year now but just went full time this last week, 3 weeks in to HRT. I can honestly say I haven't had a noticeable negative reaction in my town yet (which is also where I grew up, I've moved away lots but always get sucked back somehow) which considering the general NJ attitude I am pleasantly surprised by. I know it's a matter of time before hate from somewhere rears it's ugly head but for the most part I am not worried about it. I've faced adversity in the past and will continue to do so with my head held high.
I've seen those groups on FB but haven't contacted any of them or gone to any events yet. I hope to soon but my current job is unpredictable where scheduling is concerned. As I said I have met a few trans folk but don't have much contact with them. Would be nice to have some face to face friends who understand from experience what it's like.
As far as I know, I just... "Droped in" with the Hyland Park meeting as it was said to be "Open". It was not like my primary TG Support group whre I needed a pre-screening interview to keep away the ->-bleeped-<-s.
Thanks to the totally PC world of NNJ "Hate" is well masked. My wife and I know it first hand all too well. The further you get away from Times Square the better things are. Amazingly, I was more at ease doing part time in rural WV where I was living at the time.... then I can ever be here, a mere 7 miles from Times Square NYC. My neighbors and the "Village" are all devout haters under their masks.
I work near Asbury Park. In time when my wife and I can finally get away to someplace closer to work and in a more anonymous situation I can go back to part-time and ..... live a few more years. Yet in NJ I know....
I'm also in the hackensack nj area and attend a support group that is in teaneck nj. I know they are having an open house in september if you are interested in attending.

I didn't know there was a group in Teaneck. The only one in BC I knew of is Pathways, the former Tri-Ess(?) group which met in the hotel on the north end of Hacky in "The Hole". From what I remember their meetings were the second Saturday of the month, the same as my TG group/family. Many of which I've been missing due to my wife's health.
I would like to know more.
It's the Pathways group but the previous meeting location was redevloped. The group moved to Teaneck. They still meet every 2nd saturday of the month with the exception of July and August. Is it cool if I post a link to the site?

Links are best passed to Devlyn (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=13844) who is in charge of links. That way they are easy to find and if they should change, they can be altered in one place instead of us having to dig all over the site.
Thank You Dena. I figured plain ole' "Verboten" but... This is the "Support Groups" forum....
As Always (I hope) PM's are not.... Filtered. Otherwise, I and maybe others do some drilling

PMs are not viewable through the Forum software unless a member hits the report to administrator on a message. We have ban people for abuse of the system but that was the result of a member report or we were able to infer the content and actions of a member. Though we can't watch it you should still use some care in what you send to ensure the receiver won't be offended and report it. Legal things such as surgical results may be sent by PMs as it keeps it out of the public eyes. Self medication and illegal acts are a problem both on the forum and in PM.
Here is the link to the pathways site. http://pathwaystg.org/

In in north jersey, Bergen :) nice to meet ya girly! I'm very chatty even tho my wife doesn't like me having much contact :/ lol
Hi everyone,
I lived in Jersey once does that count? lol It was a long time ago. I just might find myself passing through in the near future on my way to or from somewhere. I live in Oregon but will be going to Maine among others places. I plan to be out moseying around the country for a month or so. Not sure just where I'm going except for Maine. I tend to wander a bit.
Hugs,
Laurie.
