Title: New here
Post by: danigirl on July 25, 2016, 06:53:00 PM
Okay, so I've been seeing a therapist for about 2 months now, after trying for far too long to convince myself that I didn't need to go anywhere with a transition. I have since tried to do it on my own but am realizing that you need the support of other people, even if it's a message board full of people you don't know. So here I am.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I searched for almost 5 years to find a resource that could answer the questions that I couldn't. Unfortunately when I transitioned the internet wasn't around and if you wanted a personal computer, you most likely built it from parts and a printed circuit board. I have looked over the site for just over a year and this may be one of the best sources of information around. Just about any subject related to transitioning is here along with a few that aren't related to transition. Well, you can't talk about transitioning all the time. In any case, if there is anything I can help you with, let me know.

Hi Dani,

When I first joined this site, I didn't know anyone either, but it was a large comfort to know there were other people who have been through many of the same experiences I have, and had the same struggles.  That can be validating in itself.

Since I been on Susan's place I have gotten to know many of the people on this forum, either through their writings, or in person. This forum can be a wonderful resource and source of support.  Welcome!

With kindness,

Terri

Truth be told I was scared to death to post anything. It was easy to go talk to my therapist but somehow the idea of telling a world of strangers seemed infinitely more frightening. I'm very new to all of this and half the time don't even feel I completely know who Dani is, so I guess it's scary to put her before the world. If that even makes sense.

I suspect you are not alone in this because there are normally 500 or so people viewing this site who haven't created an account. I suspect every day the number of people viewing this site without an account number several thousand. After you get a few posts on the site and learn there is nothing to fear, you will become a regular member of the community. Unlike many websites, this one is watched pretty close by the moderators and people are allowed to have their say as long as it's not harmful to other. The transgender spectrum is so varied that it's important for everybody to express how they see the world and no single viewpoint should dominate the site.
