Hi everybody. I am a 43 year transgender woman living on a farm just outside of Mount Gambier in South Australia. I came to the conclusion I was transgender after 3 months of soul searching with my psychologist (been seeing her for 2.5 years). I have being seeing the gender specialist Dr Lyons since April, (who suggested this site). I aim to do a slow transition (about 10 years) so that my young children would have left high school. My wife is uncomfortable with me being transgender although I told her I was a crossdresser just after we got together (married 10yrs now). Basically she didn't marry a woman. I am investigating a non social, low dose medical transition probably starting in a year.
thank you
Alexia
Welcome to the web site!
Hi Alexia,
I'm in Sydney, and I used to do low dose. There's a good thread on it here
My low dose HRT experience (was 9 month low dose HRT)

Hi all,
Thank you for your kind responses and thank you Dena and AnonyMs for the provided links. They gave me a good insight of what to expect with a non social transition and I believe it is the right thing for me. However I still intend to wait until next year before I start and ensure it is the right thing for me and to address any concerns. Plus this will provide me with some mental discipline to maintain a non social transition (hopefully).
I apologise for the slow response but after finally getting the nerve to post my internet was offline for a few days and then I went on conference.
thank you,
Alexia

That would be a neat trick to know as I think it's hard set at 30 minutes. To avoid that problem I edit large posts in a text editor and when I am happy with them, I copy and paste the text to the post area. I used it all the time for moderator reports as it gives me backup on my work until the system backup ensures the information won't be lost.
Hi Dena,
I set it for an hour as it forces me to go back to work. Before farming I used to be a computer programmer so I think my old habits of repeatedly saving things has worn off.

Hi
from what I understand there are a few trans people in the Mount Gambier area. I was born intersex so it was one of those things that was going to happen at some point for me in terms of transitioning. I too waited as I was worried about my kids as a fulltime single parent and the impact it might have, however at 37 I am now beginning the process as both my kids are 10 to 13 and they understand what it means now.
I have been told of two ftm people in Mount Gambier, and I have seen one FTM person walking around but despite my "transdar" kicking in I could never just outs someone so I have never said anything to them.
Living in a regional area is hard as we have no support groups down here anymore. I guess using a thread on here is a good way to share resources so feel free to post questions here and take care.
Thank you Sarah it is very comforting knowing there is another Transgender person in the Mount Gambier region and on the forums. The recommendation of Fuss beauty clinic is very helpful.
Doing a non social transition is good that it won't affect the kids and wife but it is also hard because I have to be very careful not to out myself. Especially when all I want to do is transition after accepting I'm trans.
I'm also hoping to start low dose hormone therapy soon (Dr Lyons is going to recommend someone next session). So if you don't mind me asking do you see someone in Adelaide and if so who do you see and do you recommend then?

No problem :)
And sure. I see a lovely Lady called Dr. Tonia Mezzini for HRT:

I see her mostly via skype but plan to see her every 5-6 months in person, reason being I am a single parent and work so my time is finite. In terms of her overall professionalism it is second to none, as she knows her stuff inside and out. Secondly, she has a very kind heart with regards to her clients going above and beyond to respect their wishes.
I hope this helps :)
Thank you Sarah very helful. I've found her previously in searches but it is good hearing from personal experiences. Also it is great to know she does skype because I've found skyping Dr Lyons a lot easier. Also you have inspired me to create a list of transgender resources in Mt G in the Australian sub forum to help any other Mt G transgender people. As it's hard with no transgender support groups in Mt Gambier.
Hi Alexia!
Welcome from England.
I'm pretty new here myself. Loads of intelligent and informative posts. There's plenty of advice and support. Enjoy.
