Hi, I'm Wendy. Exploring transition MTF after many years of suppressing things, missed opportunities, and fear. Just attended an "orientation" for transgender services at Kaiser. I'm scared and confused by the increased pace of my desire for change.
In case anyone is interested, here is what I found out at the orientation:
Intake – meet with Kaiser psychiatrist
Orientation – informational meeting about services, requirements, coverage
Gender Assessment with KP-trained gender therapist
Endocrinologist – Hormones
Facial Hair Removal (Laser or Electrolysis, pending dermatologist consult)
Tracheal Shave
Orchiectomy, Vaginaplasty, and Labiaplasty are all covered.
Requirements:
Below require assesment with a KP-trained gender therapist:
Hormones, tracheal shave, speech therapy, facial hair removal (after 6 months on hormones)
Below requires 1 year RLE (Real Life Expience, i.e. living full time in my real gender) plus 2 more assessments/letters:
All complex surgeries, including Vaginaplasty, Labiaplasty, Orchiectomy
Welcome to Susan's Place. The last few weeks on the site there has been some posting on Kaiser and it appears you are with a very good company to handle your needs. Most of the time people really need to fight to get coverage but Kaiser has made it a policy to cover many of your needs because they found it cost less treating the real problem instead of treating the symptoms. Should you have any questions for us, I think you will find the members very helpful dealing with your fears and if you have questions for me, feel free to post them on this thread.
We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

It's been a while! Just had chondrolaryngoplasty at Kaiser.
I didn't know a chondrolaryngoplasty is a tracheal shave - your post triggered my curiosity so I looked it up.
Congratulations on getting closer to your goals!
