Title: Symptom help - low estradiol
Post by: Jill E on August 07, 2016, 10:59:35 AM
It's been a while since I posted here...

I take estradiol injections. My doctor just recently started messing with my dosage after about a year of being on the same dose (she lowered by about 1/4 of my original dose).  This was about a month ago. A Little after her changing my dosage I started experiencing the following symptoms: Depression as of the last 2 weeks, anxiety and irritability for about a week (3 weeks ago),  i'm having difficulty organizing my thoughts, forgetfulness, hair loss, lack of appetite, overly tired, but not sleeping well.

I messaged her about this, and she said the only thing that would be effected in messing with my dosage is hair loss as my body adjusts. I'm not sure why she changed my dosage, as my estradiol level was around 250.  The symptoms I'm experiencing seem more persistent as I approach the end of each shot week.

Does anyone know if these symptoms would be related? Google seems to think so, but my doctor doesn't. I don't really feel like she does a good job of listening to me.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jill,

I also inject and my level is around 290 (blood draw 6 days post injection)... I definitely have felt those same symptoms but have associated them with my levels being too high as they peak 2 days post injection...when I back off the dosage a bit the symptoms seem to back off

The depression comes on quickly out of nowhere and can be quite a bleak feeling  but I have learned to recognize it for what it is and I know it will pass as quickly as it came upon me...

I hope you work things out soon with your doctor because life is for living and to short not to be feeling your best!!!!

Take Care

Ashley :)

My lows are just general lethargy and the occasional brain fog. I had that the last 5 to 6 days of my cycle... I called my endo and she increased my dose slightly. Now just the last 3 days of my 14 day cycles. One possibility may be to increase the frequency of the injections by a few days. Perhaps every 10 days rather than 14.... you may be metabolizing it to quickly. But something to discuss with your doctor....

My  current estradiol levels are 50 pg/ml and I don't have those difficulties so estradiol may or may not be the source of the problem. What I would suggest is the next blood test include testosterone levels because those might have creeped up with the lower estradiol levels. You might also want to include total estrogen as well because you will be able to calculate estrone levels as well. Estrone is not exactly a useful estrogen but it might figure into the equation.

If you honestly felt better at your original dosage she should listen to you else find a more competent doctor willing to listen to your needs. I myself have been constantly in the 1,000s pg/ml to the low 300s. Anything below 200 pg/ml I feel horrible.
