I used to ridicule my partner for taking there hand bags everywhre we went, it was only when i started dressing that i found out the need and the use of a handbag. Womens clothing are not designed like mens with lots of pockets to carry things in.
Plus as a woman we need to carry so much more than men, lipstick, make up, hairspray, spare stocking, perfume and the list goes on.
I would not be without one now and i appologise for all the comments i have made to my female friends about there Handbags.
I have even purchased a manbag for when i am out and about in male mode as i now fully understand how fantastic they are.
I would be interested to know your comment on this subject and what special things you carry around in your bag

Discovered the same problem this week when I decided to go to work in girl jeans... At least I had my backpack... Had to add handbag to my list of things to get...
I've made a stepping stone commitment to the handbag concept, though I'm still not carrying it always. Thule makes a small laptop size carrying bag that is very similar in all practical aspects to a purse. Its made for small machines like the macbook 13 or surface pro4 (which is what prompted me to go looking). shoulder strap was too un-purselike, so it had to go, not sure how to look for a possible substitute.
You want a silly answer? I miss a bag when I go shopping. There are so many frequent shopper cards at the supermarkets, drug stores, etc it would be so handy to have a bag to carry them all in.
I never challenged my wife about her need of a handbag, it was obvious to me with the lack of pockets in most of her clothes. My favorite topic to pick on was the mess that lived in her purse and how she could never find anything in it. Well, now I have the same fault and we both laugh at me when I struggle though the accumulated junk searching for my lipstick.

I've begun looking into a handbag, but it wouldn't be for going out. I'm not there yet. However, sometimes I really enjoy the experience of looking at different bags online and imagining having one. I've been thinking about getting one just to have it as part of my self-expression in my apartment. Also, for the day that I eventually do go out, it might not be a bad idea to have one.
I use a Travelon denim (synthetic) bag as my constant companion. It holds 'enough', meaning that if it starts to bulge, it's time to cull. It generally has my cards and cash, phone, keys, minimal cosmetics set, brush, glasses case, and pepper spray (on lanyard in the zipper-less center pouch, E-Z grab).
On trips to the electrologist I wedge in the numbing gel and some wipes. Ice and bottled water goes in a separate small insulated bag.
That's how I roll, anyway.
I have a Coach "man bag" that I use in andro mode, and I own about eight Steve Madden purses (have to color coordinate with the outfit) for girly mode. My one regret about the Coach bag is that it is not bigger. Nowadays the bag or purse carries my wallet, two pair of glasses, car and house keys, phone and Ipod, and a bottle of water and a small snack any time I will be out more than an hour or two.
My wife had this Harvey's bag, made out of woven seat belts, which was just big enough for my work laptop, so I started carrying it daily about 3 years ago. The design of it is neither distinctly feminine nor masculine, so I find it to be a great "stealth" purse. Not to mention that it's virtually indestructible. We have several of them now that we share, and people at work are very used to me carrying a bag all the time. They do have a great selection of colors and sizes/styles to choose from.
I mostly carry practical items in it, like pens, grocery sacks, lip balm, change for parking, my wallet and phone.
