Title: Hip pain?
Post by: Angélique LaCava on September 13, 2016, 02:57:24 PM
A month ago the left side of my hip hurt for like 3 days then stopped.... Now the right side of my  hip is hurting. It's not painful just uncomfortable. Does this mean my hips are starting to widen? I'm also 10 months on hrt.

And how old are you? When you are way past puberty that is an impossible thing to happen.

I am no doctor, so I don't have the answer for that. The only thing I can say for sure is that no pelvis widening once the bone matures (way past puberty)

Hip bones won't widen once the growth plates on bone ends stop working, somewhere between 18 and 25.  However, estradiol does alter the growth pattern of connective tissue, including tendons.  After we are on HRT for a while, we can expect the changes in connective tissue to rotate the hips forward a bit. This gives us a little joint pain and some soreness as other tissues adjust.

I bet that's what you are seeing.

The same effect is what slightly alters height and shoe size, all other things (like weight) remaining constant.

Did you over-stress your back? I know my hips hurt like hell much of the time, due to my L3 and L4 discs pinching nerves. I would advise that you speak with a physician about this.

What shoes do you wear?

I can walk fine in five inch thin heels, but sitting in them, weirdly, that is hip strain/pain territory.

It could be that. Or else what Michelle suggested.

I've been on hormones since I was 15 and I'm 21 now and I still feel those annoying aching hip/ pelvic pains, especially before going to bed. It feels like I desperately have to do a split and crack them or something lol

I really have to second this one. I started my HRT when I was 24 like 8-9 months ago. But the only pain I could recognized was how far my pelvis rotated. But I faintly rescall a pain which you have just experienced and did notice a shift. It's not widening that I know of, but my hips do appear a bit wider than they use to be.

About two to three months in I felt hip pain. I could consciously feel my hips shift outwards, and took note each day on how much wider they looked in the mirror. At six months, I still feel them taking form. It's amazing how fast that area of my body is changing.
