Hi,
I am considering cheating with hair length and going to get real human hair extensions (that dont clip off, and you need to go back for maintenance..).. you can curl, die etc what ever you want with these extensions.. will cost around $600 here in aus to have them fitted, anouther $175 for a die and all the etc.
reason is my hair is reaching a point where its not suitable for most guy styles, and its mainly an idea to look better with a neat pony tail at work.. see i deal with customers constantly and need to always look presentable. not worried about appearing at working with a sudden pony tail.. holidays coming ;)
will having hair extensions still allow my hair to grow normally till its long enough to not need the extensions?
also any idea on whats the min length hair needed to get hair extensions fitted?
Thanks
Veronica, I'm a hair stylist and extension specialist, I've tried and worn every type of extensions there is. The minimum length for extensions is about 5-6 inches, if your hair is very thick you can sometimes get away with as short as 4 inches. I will caution you that unless you plan to wear them long term you need to be very careful about which method you choose. First of all there is no method that is completely without damage, the general rule is more extensions applied the more damage and slight thinning you will have. The best methods are ones that use wefts as opposed to strand by strand techniques. My favorite type of extensions are natural beaded row extensions there are several videos on YouTube showing this technique. If you truly want a no damage solution that is comfortable and looks natural then hair pieces are that way to go. Look up halo crown extensions, they are affordable 100% human hair and they do not damage your hair at all! Feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will try to help you figure out which method is the best for you
Putting in extensions could be a recipe for disaster if you want to have healthy long hair. To have lovely long hair you have to treat it like the finest fabric you'll ever wear. The less you do it the better-- especially during the initial grow-out time. Skip extensions (of and kind). Avoid wearing wigs or hats except to protect your hair from the sun and wind (which you want to do). Don't wash it too often and avoid hair coloring if possible.
When you think about it your issue is more psychological than physical here. Put your mind on other things for awhile and in no time you'll have beautiful long hair.
Lyric is 100% right, the best thing to do is to give your hair a lots of TLC and leave it alone. I tried growing mine out for years and never could get it past my shoulders until I stopped chemically treating it, gave up my extensions, and swore off all heat styling.
