Title: Recommendations for HRT in San Antonio
Post by: silliemunkie on October 04, 2016, 12:42:44 PM
Any recommendations for a provider that would prescribe for HRT in the San Antonio area? My searching has come up with nothing so far. While my psychiatrist is fully supportive, she does not have any expertise in transgender cases, or have any recommendations. I suppose I could make a trip to Austin if they would give me more options.

Try googling "San Antonio transgender" an "San Antonio LGBT". The second one should at least turn up your local LGBT center and often they have that information available. If that fails, then try Austin.

Looking for "San Antonio LGBT" was the key to finding the information I needed. After a quick phone I was able to get an appointment the next day. The one drawback was the new patient cost of $200, and no option to use insurance. All follow-up appointments are $100.

The staff was very friendly, and helpful when I arrived. After filling out some paperwork, I was off to to see the Nurse Practitioner. He was friendly as well, and eased any nervousness as soon as we started talking. We talked about my history, and about my goals for about 20 minutes. After that I had a script, and was on my way. There is a 30 day follow-up appointment for blood work, and to see how I'm doing.

There was an issue with getting my prescription filled at CVS. The pharmacist was not comfortable filling the estradiol (high dosage), which she thought was too high of a dose. Also the sipro was flagged as a potential conflict with another blood pressure medication. So, I'm hopeful a quick phone call tomorrow will resolve everything.

Overall, it was a surreal experience, and any nervousness was wiped away as soon as I got there.

The nurse practitioner has had his own practice since 2009, and appears to be well known to the LGBT community. He has multiple specialties, but most of his patients are there for psych or HRT.

If you don't mind me asking who did you consult with for your prescription and did you have to meet with a therapist first? I'm currently pre everything and looking to start my transition also located in the San Antonio area.

n the summer of 2009, a small group of concerned citizens from the San Antonio area began a dialogue about creating a center to serve the local LGBT community. The group met frequently at the house of founding member Joseph Garrett to strategize and present ideas on moving forward. It became abundantly clear to the group that such a center should be established.
This support group should be able to make a recommendation for you.

I've been going to Nurse Practitioner Associates http://www.nursepractitionerassociates.com/

Due to issues with fatigue, I may be looking for other doctors, and plan on asking this week at the SA Gender meeting.

NPA is easy to get an appointment, but they are strictly cash only. The first visit is $200, and follow-ups are $100. There is no need for a therapist, they will cater to anyone. There are a few therapist in SA, and I'm planning on making an appointment with one of them this week. During my last appointment they gave me the information for a lawyer that will take care of my name change, and related documents.

They are located in a not so nice area of SA, so be aware of your surroundings if you do decided to go there.

here is a site that has quite a bit of info for the area
