Title: What name to use when applying for scholarships?
Post by: dontquestionisaac on October 09, 2016, 11:52:36 AM
I'm trying to find the money for college, and I'm using an app called Scholly. It's asking me for my name, and theres no option for a "preferred" name. I can't stand the idea of using my birthname, but I'm not going to be able to legally change my name until after I'm at college. I know in that case I'll have to use my birthname, but I'm just hoping that there's some way around this. Has anyone else gone through this? Is there anything I could do, or another program where I can use my genuine name? I appreciate any advice.

You would have to use your legal name. If you were to get a scholarship, they'd release money to you either:

- As a check. Which would need to have the same name on it that is on your bank account in order to deposit or cash.

- As a check to your college with your name/student account listed. So it would need to be the same as what you're registered with for college.

FTMax hit it on the nose. You have to use your legal one. Just like when I had to fill out my name change form sadly I had to put down my legal gender at that point as based on my ID. Everything needs to match. Bank accounts, ID, etc and all of that can be changed when you legally get it changed without issues. Hugs
