Title: Yahoo Group
Post by: anjaq on October 11, 2016, 03:53:27 AM
Hi

About 3 years ago when I first looked into FFS there was a Yahoo group about FFS, it was filled with a lot of email conversations about surgeons, it also had negative comments or people complaining in it, because it was not a website but an email list, so people could write whatever they liked without having to fear anything. Web forums or Facebook groups seem to be much more limited in that, because posts and comments can be moderated away if it is offensive or legally problematic. The group also had a large gallery of before and after pictures of members, usually without makeup for comparison and sorted by surgeons and date.

Is this group still around, I could not find it - and if it is not, is there a replacement? As I said, I find discussions in forums or on facebook limiting because there are so many legal concerns that people tend to not talk negatively about anyone - and also it is all so open to the public that people like me are not comfortable posting pictures which everone can readily see, so I would love to find a place to talk about FFS that is more "private". Any ideas?

It still exists, but is a ghost town.  It died a couple years ago after Yahoo changed it's group platform.  It became really inconvenient to use and people quit posting there.  The last post was in April 2016, nothing since.

It is really sad, because the Yahoo FFS group was where I learned a lot about FFS and the surgeons who performed it.

Yes, it was helpful, though rather slow three years ago and I had gotten some of the names from it - surgeons that went on my list. I also listened to the problems some had with other surgeons. Is there anything even close to that or is this subforum or other moderated forum pages the only place now to get information on FFS? I also looked on facebook, but the groups there all seem to be affiliated with one of the surgeons, while in forums it is often discouraged to write names of surgeons or comments that can give a negative impression of a surgeon because apparently one has to fear getting legal threats for that. I find it slightly frustrating because the surgeons of course all will tell you they are the best, their method is the best etc - patients seem to tend a lot towards loving the surgeon that liberated them from a male face - even if some things did not turn out as hoped, they do not want to taint the name of their surgeons - so it becomes harder and harder to get opinions that are not biased in some way. At least that is my impression and what I liked about the Yahoo group, althoough of coourse there were also these issues, but there were so many comments from all surgeons that there was still enouogh info to get a good picture, I can imagine.

I tried to get in recently and they never approved me. Seems to be nobody around to even do that

That's sad that the Yahoo Group faded away.  Is there anywhere else to go in addition to Susan's Place to read about FFS surgeons and patient experiences?

it is running on autopilot, the only thing since April 2016 is the monthly info post, which is so outdated it is not worth it.  I don't know who owns the group any more.

I just posted there and stated your issue, but I doubt the moderator will respond.  :-(
