Hi All, ive been having facial electro for a while now but id like to get things sped up a bit if possible.
ive seen mention of a clinic in belgium that will do 8 hour sessions, does anyone have more info on them please?
and i was wondering if anyone in the UK does a similar procedure? this would be much easier than going to belgium for me.
im at about 100hours in there is a massive difference but id like to get it over with a bit quicker if possible.
thanks so much. xx
Natasha,
To find an electrologist who will do a marathon session, you just have to call around. There are a few who have websites, but invariably, they are out of town, which requires travel.
A marathon session is not without risk. The sedatives, anesthetics, ant-inflammation and pain killers used require physician supervision. Not everyone is willing to do long sessions. It does stress the body quite a bit.
Others treatments include laser for dark hair and testosterone blockers for everyone. But I am sure you know that.
We just have to tough it out and schedule more sessions more often. Be safe with everything you do.
Natasha,
I want to say that Dena went through some marathon sessions as well as a few others. I am slogging along at an hour a time, so I am of little help. However, I did notice you have not been officially welcomed here.
So, I want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment to:

I wonder if they have any in Brisbane and how much they cost.

Yes they do there is one guy and I am happy to get you the details if you want, $130 per hour plus $20 per facial injection plus they supply laughing gas. Maximum 8 hrs in one session. The experienced person is no longer taking clients and the other operator is 6 months experience.
The experience of the second made me decide against it, 8 hrs is very tough on your skin and your system...there is an increased likelihood of scaring with inexperienced operators, hence why I never bothered.
I am too concerned with the potential damage to my skin...even after 1 hours work it takes nearly a full week for it to recover.

A week of recovery is not unusual for recovery if your zapping is done correctly (mainly, you should never feel like the hairs being extracted are in any way being plucked).
To kill the hair, the stem cells of the hair follicle have to be destroyed, along with the blood supply. This in turn causes the body to react, triggering a healing cycle for the skin. Skin doesn't heal overnight. Blood and plasma will fill the emptied follicle, and phagocytes will rush to the area to start eating up debris and any potential microbes that have been introduced to this sensitive area. The nice thing, though, is that your skin will actually be creating new collagen...
Back in the day, I was getting at least 4 hours a week of blend, and sometimes 8 in two sessions, covering different areas just to get clear. I'd take plenty of acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain relief. The redness at such a pace would last a few hours, up to a day for heavily concentrated areas like my upper lip. Swelling for 2 to 3 days. The treated follicles would be little pinpoints of red and swelling for up to a week. Today I'm regularly pegged for being about ten years younger than I actually am (though the estrogen certainly helped with that as well).
Good aftercare can facilitate the healing process. Immediately after a session, treat gently with ice or coldpacks for about an hour. I always liked to apply a layer of pure aloe gel, keeping it on until bedtime -- the aloe acts as a barrier to keep microbes from getting into the open follicles. For daily face cleansing, use something gentle (a "sensitive skin" product), rinse, then apply witch hazel, which acts as a astringent to close up the pores, again helping to prevent infection (witch hazel isn't nearly as harsh as most astringents or toners). Finish with a mild moisturizer -- you don't want your skin drying out.
Finally, operator skill is absolutely key. Someone with a natural talent and understanding of the process (who is trained by someone reliable) can be very good even with only six months of experience. Conversely, there are electrologists who've been out there for decades that I would never let touch my face, moreso because they can be ineffective (sucking up your money), though of course there are some who are too aggressive with their thermolysis and can cause lasting damage.
I may look at electrolysis if things change. However, two sessions of laser has clear immense volumes on my upper lip. I let the hair grow for 4 days straight and found nearly 30 hairs on the upper lips with a small cluster of 8ish near the chin. I am impressed by laser so far. Before it I had 4 ipl which reduced hair but nothing like this laser treatment.
Have you considered going that path to clear first?
thanks so much for the advice.
ive been having it done for over a year now and it just gets me down sometimes so i was looking at ways to speed things up. its just so frustrating and adds to overall depression problems but im getting through it. there are good signs of progress so i shouldnt complain, its just holding me back at the moment, thanks for taking the time to reply everyone. its always good to know there are others out there going through the same problems.
xx
I had another hour long session on my top lip yesterday to finish the clearance...which my lip is now cleared!!! I Left myself unshaved for 5 days to see how much I really had left. I was astounded how little grey hair is left...can't find any black anywhere except a few stragglers that will get zapped at the next laser round. This laser overall has reduced my beard to about 30-40% of what it was.
As the thick "Posts" (thick tough grey hair) are removed I don't seem to get them growing back again. In Great area's there is absolutely nothing and others have these sparse but thick grey hairs. I had noticed a few very fine hairs on my top lip...maybe 12 or so and that is all. The first clearance on the top lip was about 2 months ago. Whilst getting zapped yesterday she was also pulling out very tiny dead hairs from the laser treatment 3 weeks ago...IPL and Proper Laser treatment on the right skin and hair tone is very effective at removing black hairs.
I am having injections into my face next week for another hour long session. I am determined to get through this first tough clearance. Once the big thick hairs are finally removed I may even be able to tolerate the removal of the small fine hairs just with anaesthetic cream and Valium.

I just had an hour and a half session on my upper lip last week. my electrologist has a dentist across the hall so I went there first and got 4 Novocain injections inside my upper lip near the gums. Never felt a thing during the whole session. She was able to clear out 99% of the hairs. I'll be curious to see how much comes back at the next growth cycle, but I don't feel much of anything there in the mornings.
I'm starting to think I may be getting near the end of electrolysis!!!!!!
*SIGH* 37 hours in, and nowhere near getting cleared. Just the damn chin area had a good bit of new hair come in while my electrolyst was on vacation. I may wind up with 250-300 hours to get a reasonable face, so I'll be trying to get to 4 hours/week so I can get done in a couple years. It's all gray and with my skin, no laser for me.
Electrology 3000 is sounding better and better...

I don't know for sure how many hrs I have done. I know I started January this year....are you even getting Patchy?

I started with laser, Diode, 6 sessions. Then moved to electrolysis where after 150-200 hours of treatment (thermolysis with microscope), all my hairs were gone. Several years later, no growth to speak of. Patience. I started going 4 hours a week for a few weeks, then 3 hours for several weeks and so on but kept on a strict schedule. Persistence and regular visits pay off!
I'm getting patchy on the area between the chin and lower lip, and the upper lip is finally looking a bit thinner. We haven't touched the neck or cheeks, really, just maybe a half inch below the jawline near the chin. After three weeks between sessions (her vacation), I was dismayed with all the junk that appeared on the chin to lower lip area. About 90 minutes and the left side was re-cleared, then another whack at the upper lip for 45 minutes. We'll repeat this on the right side on Monday.
When we schedule the next block of appointments I'm going to bite the bullet and ask for 4 hours, either as a block if she can stand it or as a couple of two hour sessions, maybe morning and afternoon, on the same day.
I hate growing a crop of hair. Makes passing a bit harder by the third day, unless the circus is in town... Does Ben Nye sell concealer in gallon buckets? :P

oh, if i ever ask for a four-hour block, somebody shoot me. I'm 17 sessions in, going twice a week for 45 minutes each. Despite slathering on Lidocaine, starting 90 minutes before the appointment, i find that 45 minutes into the session, the numbness is wearing off quickly enough that i want to jump out of my chair. I hate that this means i'll have to attend more sessions, but each session feels fairly comfortable now.
At this point, possibly half my face and neck have been cleared. My electrolysis tends to wander around my face each session (meaning i have to apply lidocaine everywhere), but this also means that i don't appear to have large swaths of cleared spaces, which would be suspicious to others.
Oh, and of course, i just HATE having to grow out my beard for 3 days each time. Now that i'm on HRT, i'm noticing that my beard is beginning to grow more slowly, so i may have to adjust to sessions on successive days instead of Monday Thursday as they are now.
