Title: Progesterone Only Pills
Post by: November Fox on October 29, 2016, 06:03:26 AM
Hi guys!

I have a question about how to get rid of shark week.

I´ve been on T for three months, but it does not seem to be going away (yet) and for me it is always coupled with excruciating dysphoria in which I tend to get panic attacks and self-harm. So I guess yes, I could sit around and wait for it to go away, but who knows how long it might take? Could be a year for all I know.

My family has a history of blood clots so I can´t use things like Lynoestrenol (orgametril) and I would rather not use anything that has added estrogen-like components in it, so pretty much only progesterone only pills are left. However I have read very little about this on transman groups.

Can anyone tell me more about this?

Cheers!

I think the depo shot is just progesterone. It completely stops people from making eggs. My friend hasn't had a period in 3 years

Is the depo provera shot available where you are? That'd probably be the easiest method to knock it out. They only have to administer it every few months as opposed to the daily pills.

i think so, but I´ve heard bad things about it (people having serious side effects) and am not that comfortable with the idea of that stuff lingering in my body for larger amounts of time (as opposed to pills you´d take daily or so).

Ah gotcha. Well, I'd compare the ingredients. If it's just progesterone, I imagine it would be fine.

Provera can also induce thrombosis, same as Estroidal and/or Testosterone. So, IF you do decide take both that and T simultaneously, I'd really have to recommend you to consider also taking 81mg aspirin (as in real aspirin) - just in case. About $15 for a year's worth at Walgreens (the enteric coated ones).

Otherwise, this should stop within six months after your dosage volume has been fine-tuned (the sooner that's achieved the sooner this will cease). If it doesn't, it's not right and/or something else is going on.

You're about due for Total Testosterone AND Estroidal level check. If your doc doesn't bring it up at your next appointment, you should; insist on them being done if you must. If your dosage volume is either too low or too high, that would be why this isn't stopping yet. And it would be better to correct it by either raising or lowering your dosage than by stacking on another HRT; doubling down on your clotting risk, unnecessarily.

Hey Magnus,

Thanks for the reply. You´re right about the tests coming up, I´m working with my GP though and she doesn´t know a lot about it. I´ll call up the doc at the gender clinic and see if they are up for doing them.

I hadn´t considered that too much T might be inducing shark week but since T can convert to E I guess you´re right. I´m glad I asked because I could use the reminder.
