Title: Bras
Post by: Karlie Ann on October 30, 2016, 01:51:16 PM
So, this is probably a silly question, but...

How do you know when you need to wear a bra daily?  I mean, when I'm in boy mode I avoid it so no one can see it through my shirt or feel it if I get hugged, but I hear horror stories of boobs sagging if you don't wear bras.  Obviously at two months mine are less than AA I guess, but how do I know when I have to wear them?

I guess when it becomes uncomfortable while runnning, or walking the stairs

Dear Abby had the pencil test. You place a pencil under the breast and if it stays there, it's time to wear a bra. You might want to wear one sooner because of pain or because it enhances the figure.

Would like mine to grow to the point that a bra would be necessary.

What can I do to get that growth?

I'm pretty sure that the science suggesting that sag gets worse over time if you don't wear a bra is not true.  It only makes a difference while you're actually wearing the bra.

There are many bras you can wear in boy mode without people noticing. You could for example look into bralettes.

The hugging part - ok. That is a bit harder. But I have gotten hugged a bunch while in boy mode and wearing a bra... no one noticed or said anything ;-)

For me there were two reasons needing to wear a bra most to all the time:
1) The jiggling, nice to have but can, as Naomi said, get to be uncomfortable at times
2) The GD in general. At this point in my life I cannot move forward, Absolutely cannot move backwards. I do what I can to inspire me, to remind me I can again live the dream. That today's needs are hopefully not tomorrows.

For me also right now it's a mental need more than a physical need.  Can't wait for it to be a physical need.

Simple observation puts that "science" a bit in doubt. If you look at women in remote areas who go topless their entire lives you see a lot of sag, even on younger ladies. I've known women who doffed their bras in the '70s who regretted it because they felt they sagged earlier. I suspect for smaller breasts it may not make much difference, but for larger ones it would have to. Gravity pulls heavy parts downward, stretching the skin and tissue.

"Myth #2: Wearing a bra can help prevent sagging.
There's no data that shows that certain bras such as push-up bras prevent sagging, or that any particular kind of bra can cause sagging, says Mary Jane Minkin, MD, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine."

In fact, there is evidence  (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/259073.php)that wearing a bra causes sagging :)

QuoteIn an interview with France Info (radio), Professor Rouillon said:

"Medically, physiologically, anatomically - breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra."

You never really have to wear a bra if you don't want to, but there is a good chance that at a certain point of development it will become more comfortable to wear one than to not

But by that time you'll be trying to decide if these "Jugs" you've acquired and tote about are actually a blessing or a curse LOL

At the moment still loving the these little 18B's, I  bought my first proper bra yesterday mainly because I was complaining they were always sore and my wife suggested I may need some support...didn't think they were big enough for that...wrong...pleasantly so :) :)

I dont think there is hard or fast rule, which says.. when you reach this stage a bra is required.

I started to wear a bra, about 3 days into hrt (Background - I went full time and started HRT on the same day, it just worked out that way). I woke up that morning and my nipples were super sensitive. I then put on a padded sports bra to help cushion them. From that day forward I began wearing a bra everyday.

I started to wear bra when possible and convenient, just to make me feel good and give some shape.

However, after a bit of regular wearing, I went without one for a day and I felt really heavy. Going downstairs made my girls thump and it became clear that full time wearing was now a necessity.

Maybe it's true that constant wearing does make you sag, as I have sagged!

I am just past four months into hrt and at ~36A. I do find that the sensitivity turns into sharp pain when poked or I catch a corner wrong. A bralette with a light layer of padding saves me some of those ouch moments.....and I do like a little more definition. - Anne

It is never 'required' except maybe at some workplace with archaic dress code or safety concerns.
I know several GG with well developed breasts that never wear one, they claim wearing one makes the supporting muscles weak from lack of use.

I seldom wear one as I like the jiggle and like showing off. At 38C the pencil test suggests that I would benefit. When I do wear one, it is a fashion decision and will usually be visible thru my blouse/shirt (see above about showing off). I am as likely to wear a bra in boy clothes as in girl clothes.

As far as hugging, if someone is that close and personal, they probably know already.

I intend to start shortly after my nipples get super sensitive.  It will be for protection more than support.

I'll also be out to everyone by then so no "hug" worries.

I've been reading Prevention for a long time and they do have a way of screwing up facts in an article now and then. While the title generalizes, suggesting that wearing a bra cannot prevent sagging, the paragraph below says that there is "no data" that "certain bras such as push-up" bras prevent sagging. That just says there hasn't been enough sanctioned research. It doesn't say that any research has proven that bras do not prevent sagging. Then it suggests that sports bras actually do prevent sagging.

So, a better title for that heading would be "Myth #2: We know that bras cannot prevent sagging".

That would be me as well, tank top or tshirt without a bra is a sure way to get stares, I have very pokie firm nipples and even my spouse says "you can't go out in public like that!"
I absolutely love my bralettes and push-up bras and don't mind wearing one every night and even to bed, they are actually quite comfortable for me.

I do love bralettes!  Sadly, under a polo shirt you can still see the strap in the back.  The only bra I get away with is a calvin klein sports bra that's just a piece of fabric, no padding, and thin fabric even in the straps.

I also love wearing push-up bra's and I find then very comfortable. I wear one must days.  A big secret to bra wearing, if a bra is uncomfortable, it then either damaged or incorrect size. I struggled with bra's then I went for a professional fitting.. and got the right size for me.. now my bras are so comfortable, it almost feels like I am not wearing one.

I don't wear a bra to bed, once by pj's get put on, then the bra comes off.

I am pre hot and wear a bra every day. I find that it help keep the dysphoria down. So, mentally I need it, but physically, it's a long way off.

Same for me, pre-hrt.  I've been wearing a bra or at least camisole everyday for a little over two months now, shortly after realizing that transition was actually possible.

I have a little bit there  (moobs) so I  can make some cleavage with a good push up and accessories.  Nowhere near a physical necessity but even the tiny bit of support from a sport bra is a boost to my female brain.

Also starting to feel naked with out a bra now.

Bras are an instrument of torture. Torture I tell you! I hate the bloody things. I especially hate the way it is impossible to find a bra without either a) padding or b) support.

Support, I can sort of live with although it itches and stings after a long day. Padding... I don't get padding. Most women I know have plenty of breast and there's nothing wrong with their shape. Why is the padding needed? It just serves to hide your natural shape and make everyone look the same.

Lately I can't even find a bikini top without padding. It's awful.

Bras suck. So. Much.

Burn them!  >:-)

I started wearing Sports singlets with built in crop tops as I did a lot of sport back in the day and also weared then daily to flaten my chest before full transition,
But as they got bigger I started getting fitted for bras by professional bra fitters for a proper comfy fit and love then, my fave are tee shirt bars for a nice smooth look under any top and also it evens breast out if they are slightly different sizes,
But having a sports bra or single is a must if doing any vigerous activity to reduce the risk of bounce or tearing of breast tissue even with tiny boobs,,,,,,,,,,
There are so many options out there its just a matter of finding the right ones to suit your body and the activity you do,
Another thing to remember is sizes will vary with different manufactorers and I found it best to try on before buying............

Cheers Tracy

Boy mode? I don't know of such a thing. I've heard of "going commando." Anyways, even without having breasts or being on hrt I wear bras all the time except in bed. Sometimes, I "go commando" around the house, but not often.

You should look at bralettes, no padding or push up to them at all, kind of like training bras for adult girls 😉
I love all my cute lacy bralettes!

Mnyeah, maybe, I haven't tried those before. I've tried sports bras for a while but they never seem to hold things very stable. Thanks for suggesting bralettes.

Anyway I do have the one bra that doesnt' have either support or padding, so they're not literally impossible to find. Just very hard to come by.
