I've got a HRT question. I am going to be talking to my therapist about starting it sooner rather than later for some reasons of the political nature.
So since I am going to talk go her about this, I had a question.
I don't have a general practitioner/family doctor. I've called so many over the last two months, and none of them are taking new patients, or taking my insurance. A few said they will be taking new patients in January. If I can get in with them, then great, but if not, I am pretty much just not going to be able to find one anytime soon. Do I have to see a GP to get started on HRT? Can I just see an Endo? Will they do all the of checks required during the first several years?

The endo will do all the checks including referals for blood before writting out scripts for HRT and monitor you for X amount of years...........
Once he gets the referal from your psych saying your ready to start the hormones.........

For a long time my endo took care of all my medical needs including a physical once a year. I preferred it that way and unfortunately I haven't been able to connect with that type of care again so I am stuck working between two people. Fortunately they can talk with each other so that's something.
It really depends on your insurance. Some kinds of insurance require a referral to see a specialist like an endocrinologist. Some allow you to just go if you know that's who you need to see.
You could also try calling Planned Parenthood locations in your area. Many of them do HRT, but not all of them, so you'd need to check each one.
They should know what kind of tests to run, if not I'm happy to send you a list of the lab tests my doctor requires quarterly for the first year and then annually after that.
It may depend - it seems my family doctor does handle some ends work and I found that their web site lists what they named "sexual identity" as service. Planning to talk to them in the next few weeks. I agree some of the "political nature" has made me get more anxious to get started sooner rather than later.
So in a nutshell: You may need to ask. No matter which way it goes an independent end will work or at least inform your PCP about any treatment...
I was recommended an endo that works with the trans community in my city. After I talk to my therapist today, I am going to call and see if they take my insurance, and if they will take me without a referral. Crossing my fingers big time. If I can't, I am going to wait until January to try and get in with that doctor that is taking new patients at that time.
There is only one doctor that I have found, that takes my insurance and is taking new patients. Sadly, he doesn't appear to be the kind that I would want to disclose being trans to.
I see a family Dr who has a history of treating many trans people. She monitors bloodwork regularly and has a good reputation in the trans community in my city.
